Are the biggest conferences the most instructive? Not always. Tuesday reminded me once again of the value of small events. As part of their Digital Weeks, Landkreis Leer?and?Niedersachsen.ai organized an event worth experiencing: "#AI in Software #Technology and Beyond" by Prof. Dr. Niels Streekmann from the University of Emden/Leer. The talk was not just informative but truly engaging. The highlight, however, was the presentation by SeesDisease a local startup founded by two young innovators, Lorenz Rutkevich and his brother David Rutkevich, only 17 and 20 years old. They’re developing AI models that automate microscopy analyses, paving the way for faster, more precise diagnoses—something unique in Germany. My takeaway: Small local events can be not only entertaining but also incredibly eye-opening, showcasing raw innovative power without the overbranding often seen on big stages. What about you? ?? I am truly impressed about the four fantastic deep tech start-up teams, who showcased five business use cases for their innovative technologies at the #EIC #Tech2Market pitching day. ?? These innovations, born out of academia, have extensive previous research backing them. It took several years of hard work to reach the point where these technologies could be presented to investors. ?? Now it's time to look for feedback on their #business potential! - for the first time for some of them. ?? It is not an easy task for a scientist to talk business! ???? How to build credibility and keep the pitch simple and comprehensive? ?? What makes a winning pitch? ?? What exactly are investors looking for in a deep tech pitch? These were the key topics we discussed among fellow jury members, who brought expertise from various fields including #strategy, the EIC #Accelerator, #investment, and #deeptech backgrounds. Congratulations to each team, who took the courage, you are already winners!?? I was invited to celebrate the iCapital award this week! I talked about brave customers paving the way for new innovations and also brave investors supporting hardware companies scaling up and investing in equipment, facility (cleanroom) and automation. You need to be brave and also patient to understand that scaling up hardware is different from scaling up software.
