I met Kenyatta Starks, Ed.D. at a pivotal moment in my professional career; I had just received news that my position was being eliminated due to low enrollment, and I was only two years into my education career! I decided to apply to the Office of School Turnaround, but I wasn’t sure what to apply for since I wasn’t high school certified, so I applied for the athletic director and dean of students positions. Little did I know the school was John Marshall Metropolitan High School, and the legendary Dorothy L. Gaters was the AD. Starks took a chance on a young educator who was passionate about youth development, and the rest is history. She has helped me develop into the transformational leader I am today. We have worked together in Chicago, California, and now New York! Thank you for your mentorship, friendship, and for being a great person!
