There's a room in which arts funding dwells, and in that room is a table. Around that table, sit a group of regular faces, able to make their art through regular funding support. There are others in the room, who sometimes get to sit at the table. And there are the rest. Those who know there's a room, and know where the door is, but don't have a key to get in. Then there are those who can see the room, perhaps from a distance, but can't find the door. And then there are those who don't even know the room exists. While there is funding available through Creative Australia, etc., most people who make art in Australia have never had any support from any of the funding bodies. Sometimes it's because many people who make art don't know how to access that funding. Often it's simply because it's outside their skill set to write the right grant application.

A big shout-out to my network about the impressive work by Andrew Ellis and the Art UK team. As highlighted in their impact report: "Our aim is to ensure that cultural capital is not the preserve of the privileged few." Their work and vision have been a crucial inspiration for our product. We also aim to promote cultural learning and meaning-making for those who do not currently have the means or interest, often due to a lack of domestic support and socially constructed narratives. A key prerequisite is the collaborative juxtaposition of institutional and free-choice learning organisations, working together to ensure that cultural education is not merely a grey shadow of what we call cultural institutions. This is particularly challenging in child education, where decomposing iconographic and iconological narratives is a significant challange. However, we believe that novel technologies like GenAI and Deep Learning are leading the way and can create immersive and personalised experiences that resonate with people regardless of their age, and social or economic heritage. #artandculture #arttech #culturetransformation #artificialintelligence #museumeducation #childeducation #openai #DigitalArt #ArtTech #CulturalInnovation #DigitalCulture #ArtificialIntelligenceArt #VirtualRealityArt #CreativeTechnology #DigitalTransformation #TechArt #ModernArt #CulturalHeritage #DigitalCuration #InnovativeArt #ArtisticInnovation #DigitalMediaArt #CultureAndTechnology #newmediaart Richmond, The American International University in London #digitalcreativity #ContemporaryArt #ArtInDigitalAge
All of us at Art UK are massively proud of our latest Impact Report which we have just published:?https://lnkd.in/eJ3vQYKv ? The report includes lots of encouraging data, quotes from users and some of the artworks that joined the platform in 2023. Here are a few highlights from the year: ? ·??????The platform had 5.3m users, 6.8m sessions and 20.9m page views. We had over 3m users from overseas. ·??????Audience satisfaction levels were strong, and we continued to broaden our audience. ·??????1.4m people read one of our stories and we now have over 2,000 ‘evergreen’ stories about art on the site. ·??????3,472 collections shared the platform to show artworks by over 54,000 artists. 78% of collections surveyed said they used Art UK to plan exhibitions. ·??????Our learning resources grew strongly and traffic to them increased 87% y-on-y. 1,000 teachers engaged with our Superpower of Looking programme. ·??????Art UK’s core running costs spread across all collections on the platform work out at just £373 per collection. ? None of this would have been possible without the amazing colleagues, trustees, advisors and Philanthropy Board members I work with. And of course, all of us are so very grateful to all our wonderful funders and supporters.

Artistic Director, Curator of Public Art Interventions and Community Engagements, Guerrilla Creative Business Consultant.
The wrap reel for The Good Lab by Micro Galleries has just been released. This program was powerful because artists do something kinda cool: authentically collaborate with skill. Artist collaboration?employs a unique methodology that integrates research, diverse practices and approaches, creation, tension, failure, reimaginings, and solutions to address complex issues. Repeat. According to the Brookings Institution, such collaborative community engagement is crucial for effective problem-solving and sustainable development. Through this collaborative process, artists are inspired to create innovative works that reflect and tackle these issues. Plenty of research shows it, our work does it.? https://lnkd.in/gZUc-qu5 Embracing the potential for failure, The Good Lab encourages experimentation and iterative design, viewing setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth. This iterative process of trial and error ultimately leads to more robust and creative solutions, resulting in impactful art that resonates with both the local community and a global audience. https://lnkd.in/g2h-D3MK

The instinct to make, to create, to make art exists across cultures, times, and places. It is perhaps one of the most common, binding aspects of human society--and why aesthetics and public engagement/politics/how we live together are so tightly bound up. When we talk about widening the world of art it is about opening our culture to new ideas, new perspectives, but even in the most avant-garde artworks reflect that impulse to create that's common to all humanity.

Slow Art Day 2024 takes place tomorrow. How are you taking part this year? Please share how you're getting involved in the comments. Slow Art Day is a global annual event encouraging us to look at and discuss art slowly. This year it takes place on Saturday 13 April. The idea is simple: look at a few works of art for 5-10 minutes each. ?? You can do this on your own, with a group of friends or as part of an event at a museum. ?? Or participate online in a guided session or opt for a recorded video (see YouTube for lots of slow art inspiration). ?? You can choose which artworks to look at or let yourself be guided by what the museum has chosen. ?? Some venues select five pieces of art, others focus on just one or two, and others offer yet more options. If you're participating, tell us in the comments ?? what you plan to do tomorrow! Or maybe you're a host? Share your Slow Art Day event below ?? Use the comments here to spread the word about Slow Art Day and get involved. I'll also put some handy links for more info in the comments. cc: phyl terry #slowartday2024 #slowart #slowlooking

Rich content here!
Doing an art fair, art walk, open studios, or other event where artists show together? Plan your booth or space in advance including what goes where. Know the direction of traffic so you can put an eye-catching piece of art in their sight line to slow them down. Bring art that's priced in whatever ranges typically sell best wherever you are. Pay attention and be accessible at all times. Have info about your art for people to read. Introduce yourself to anyone who looks like they might need help.
