Did you know researchers at #UAlberta study the impact of swear words? With up to 0.7% of our daily language consisting of swear words, it's a significant area of interest, particularly in consumer behaviour! In this "Meet our Researchers" video series, Katie Lafreniere, PhD, an assistant professor in the marketing, business economics, and law department at the Alberta School of Business, explains how, when, and why swear words in online reviews affect consumers reading reviews. This must have been an interesting conference! Lots to learn from! Love the summary of key questions: 1. What are our core values? 2. Do we want reform of or a break with the status quo? 3. Who makes these decisions? 4. How are decisions around Open Access linked to other aspects of Open Research? https://lnkd.in/e-pxTWkt

A Beacon of Appreciation in Our Academic Quest In the quiet corners of scholarly endeavor, the unexpected words of appreciation bring personal efforts into the light. My heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Kerryn Krige and the team at Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies for their acknowledgment of my review work. This kind gesture goes beyond a personal accolade; it is a testament to the collective spirit of all those immersed in the world of research. It is a nod to the dedication that often goes unseen — the meticulous analysis, the pursuit of knowledge, and the unwavering commitment that we, as learners, share in our quest to enrich understanding. To all my friends in the research community and those on the path of discovery, let this be a reminder of the impact you are capable of. Your diligent work can, and often does, yield unexpected and inspiring results. Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, is a stride towards a future replete with knowledge and insight. Let us continue to learn and work together to create a better tomorrow. #ResearchJourney #InspiringResearch

??Excellent start of the Working Group "Culture, cognition, and Narratives of Legitimization" in the framework of the international project ?? "Research Network for Interdisciplinary Studies of Transhistorical Deliberative Democracy", with the grand implementer ?? Institute IRRIS – Institute for Research, development and strategies of society, culture, and environment ???? The main aspects of the WG analysis are: ??different forms of practices of deliberation within contemporary societies; ??traditionally cultural-bound patterns of deliberation in the classic public spheres, in subaltern counter-public ?? in political, legal, and economic spheres, ?? in civil and digital spheres.?? ??The main focus is to prevent conflict through deliberation. ??Moreover, in the next few years, we will work on:?? identification of multi-disciplinary methods/new methods and empirical tools that have been used in studying culture, cognition, and narratives of legitimacy. Much more to come in the next period. #science #communication #analytics #researcher #dataanalytics #project #internationalcooperation #implementation #changemakers #decisionmaking #ethics

The fourth Knowledge Beyond Boundaries, LSE's interdisciplinary student research conference, has officially begun! We are excited to be welcoming over 100 presenters, whose research explores the LSE Festival theme of Power and Politics, and over 200 attendees joining us either online or in-person. Eighteen LSE departments are represented here today, and we are also joined by twelve students from CIVICA partner institutions. We are proud to be offering a friendly, inclusive space for young academics to present their work and build their networks. One of our presenters today is Lisa Mandal, who is presenting her research on young female Formula 1 fan identity. Lisa was encouraged to submit an abstract to present her work at this year's conference following her work as a student ambassador at Knowledge Beyond Boundaries 2023. She had these words to share about why this experience motivated her to become a conference presenter: "Working on the behind-the-scenes of this conference taught me how academic conferences can actually be really fun and that research need not be daunting at all. So, this year, I was motivated to take it up a notch and submit my own abstract for the conference! I’m not going to lie - It’s quite fulfilling to see your own name on the presenters’ conference programme that you yourself had worked on last year." May we be honest in helping capital which wish to do good. There is often tremendous personal cost, to the individual, sacrificing for what she believes to be the greater good. Let us not BS people into these sacrifices. Doing the right thing can be hard and rarely guarantees a large profit or personal bonus. Let us not use lazy partial equilibrium thinking to confuse people into ineffective methods for achieving a noble goal. Let us not let charlatans, wanting to profit from hot new good causes, peddle false gods and BS solutions to asset owners who wish to do good.
We are delighted to welcome 4 new members to the Academic Network Advisory Committee, bringing a wealth of expertise from academia, policy and investment practice. ? We’ve done a short Q&A with Jason Hsu, Marie Brière, Lukasz Pomorski and Jennifer Howard-Grenville, covering the key challenges to #ResponsibleInvesting, the benefits of the Academic Network and PRI’s wider #research programme, and their desired contribution to the programme. ?? ? Did you know the PRI has an Academic Network that has 13,000+ academics and practitioners? The Academic Network Advisory Committee aims to bridge the gap between investors and academics through events, seminars, and a monthly newsletter, fostering engagement and knowledge exchange.
