What a great New Student Orientation Week! Imagine, starting your new business Ph.D. program with a session on “Diagnosing and Blocking Bias in Everyday Interactions." That is exactly what happened at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Two of our Lab directors, Sara Jordan-Bloch and Shannon Gilmartin, led students through the 90-minute session where they reviewed the latest research on how bias chips away at strong cultures and interpersonal relationships, and what we can do to combat those biases in the moment. Students engaged in reflection and break-out groups, and identified key ways to re-think peer interactions, the job application process, and more. The session concluded with hope and excitement for the community and culture that students themselves build together every day. ? In designing and presenting this session, we thank our long-time partners Dianne Le and Joan Menees at the GSB, as well as our colleagues Lori Nishiura Mackenzie and Sarah Soule for originating these learning-centered sessions several years ago. ? #futurescholars #impact

What if you could skip the university grind and still thrive professionally? That's exactly what I explored. That's a fascinating topic! Many people question the traditional path of higher education and wonder if there are alternative routes to success. What were some of your key findings? Did you discover specific industries or fields where self-learning and practical experience are more valued than formal degrees? Or perhaps you explored successful individuals who have achieved significant accomplishments without a traditional university education? I'm curious to hear more about your insights and experiences.

As we count down to graduation, take a moment to meet @CornellDysonSchool’s Matthew Sovik ‘24 ?? Q: What will you always remember about your time at Cornell? A: "I will always remember the community of peers and mentors I had in Dyson. I learned so much from my classmates both in and out of the classroom, as they consistently motivated me to better myself and explore new interests. The atmosphere and support students receive and engage with in Dyson is truly special." Q: How will you use this lesson or knowledge in the future? A: As I enter my career and new opportunities arise both in and outside of my workplace, I will continue to pursue my goals and advocate for myself to access these opportunities. I’ve learned so much about confidence and the ability to assert my best self during my time at Cornell, and I plan to keep this learning with me in future endeavors. Q: Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a #Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell? A: At Cornell, I have been engaged with social impact through extracurricular and course commitments across all four years of my time here. Social impact was integrated into so many aspects of my Cornell experience that it is inevitable that I will carry it into my future career and life. Although it may be difficult to have a significant social impact starting out as an analyst at a bulge bracket bank, I hope that later in my career I am able to transition to a career directly involving social impact. ?? Back in high school, many of us were fed the wrong idea about campus life. We were sold the idea that university was a continuation of "fun" on a whole new level. For the boys, it was about meeting beautiful girls. For the girls, it was about the "handsome men" they’d encounter. It sounded like the dream life. What they didn’t tell us is that campus is so much more than that. It’s a space to: Network with like-minded people and industry professionals. Build skills that align with our passions and career goals. Explore leadership opportunities and become change-makers. Discover ourselves and grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Lay the foundation for thriving careers and purposeful lives. If only we understood this from day one, maybe we'd approach campus life with more clarity and purpose. To anyone in university or preparing to join, don’t be distracted—take full advantage of this incredible chapter of your life. Campus is the foundation of your future. Build it well!

■ As I step into my final year of college, I can’t help but look back on these last three years with immense gratitude and nostalgia. Each day on campus has been a mix of learning, growth, and unforgettable memories that have truly shaped me. ■ The campus itself is more than just a collection of buildings; it’s where my journey of self-discovery began. Walking through the corridors, I’m reminded of my early days exploring the vast network of labs and study halls. Our labs, bustling with activity, have been a place of experimentation, collaboration, and hands-on learning. The energy and curiosity in the labs have fueled my passion and curiosity to push boundaries, solve complex problems, and refine my skills. ■ Lectures, too, have been an experience in themselves. Each professor brought not only subject expertise but also a unique perspective that has broadened my understanding. The lively discussions and debates have fostered a culture of critical thinking that I’ll carry forward into my career. ■ Beyond academics, sports events have been a highlight, filling the campus with excitement and a sense of unity. Cheering on our teams and participating in intercollegiate competitions has taught me the value of teamwork and perseverance. These moments have strengthened bonds with friends and taught us resilience, both on and off the field. ■ Now, as I step into my final year, I feel a blend of excitement and determination. I’m ready to make the most of every moment and prepare for the professional journey that lies ahead.

As we count down to graduation, take a moment to meet @CornellDysonSchool’s Josh Figueroa ‘24 ?? Q: What is the most valuable thing you learned in your time at Cornell? A: The most valuable thing I learned at Cornell was to be curious. I found immense value in learning more about my professors' and peers’ backgrounds outside of an academic setting. Q: Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a #Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell? A: As I transition to my career and life after Cornell, I will always exercise the act of service and keep in mind its relevance and positive impact on many people. The service of others, whether it was a professor extending their office hours or an upperclassman sharing their wisdom with me, has positively shaped my time at Cornell, and this is something that I will always be grateful for. I plan to provide service to others, whether sharing my wisdom and experiences with undergraduate students, engaging in alum programming events, or participating in any philanthropic efforts. Q: Tell us what made your Dyson experience so impactful. A: My Dyson experience has been tremendous because of the curriculum, faculty investment in the student's development and learning, and endless professional resources. Our students can pursue and learn about their desired career paths, whether it's in financial services, consulting, or any other pocket in the business world. Our dedicated professors and student and career services offices make this possible [...] to ensure that we're in the best possible position for life after Dyson. ?? Photo provided by Josh Figueroa

?? ?????????????? ??????????????????: ?????? ?????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ?????????????? ?????????????????????? ????????????????'?? ???????? ?? Savannah Liston came to the Great Connections Seminar hoping for intellectual growth—and left with so much more. She describes it as "probably one of the most impactful programs I've ever been to." During the seminar, Savannah engaged in deep discussions on philosophy, science, and art, exploring texts by Aristotle, Ayn Rand, and De Tocqueville. The small-group format challenged her to think critically, articulate her ideas confidently, and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds. "I think it was the practice of the Socratic seminar itself, the understanding of how we learn together and asking questions, trying to understand the text together instead of putting our own opinion on it, and taking the time first to understand what the author is saying before we decide whether we agree or not... which has been a very important practice for me." Savannah says says. "It's definitely played a part in my work, because my work revolves around conversations with others," she adds. Today, Savannah is thriving as a young professional, crediting the seminar with giving her the confidence to lead meetings, present her ideas persuasively, and think creatively in her career. At Reliance College, we don’t just prepare students academically—we prepare them for life. ?? #StudentSuccess #RelianceCollege #ThinkFreely #CriticalThinking #ProfessionalGrowth

Hello Big Fellows! Embarking on your journey into university or college is an exhilarating milestone, yet it often comes with uncertainties. From my experience guiding countless students through this transition, I've observed a common trend: many are unprepared for what lies ahead—beyond the freedom from school and home supervision. It's easy to get swept up in the excitement without fully grasping the significant investment your education represents—often millions. Joining a university isn't just about making friends; it's about stepping into a world where responsibility, organization, and thoughtful action are paramount. As you embark on this transformative journey in 2024, remember: your time here is more than an opportunity—it's a commitment to personal growth and academic excellence. #UniversityLife #CollegeJourney #StudentTransition #NewBeginnings #CollegeExpectations #AcademicExcellence

As the new academic year begins, it’s hard to ignore the growing trend of questioning the value of a college education. While opinions differ, one thing remains true: the effort required to truly learn and grow, no matter where that education happens, is immense. Education—whether in a traditional college setting or through other avenues—demands dedication, persistence, and a willingness to put further the effort. It’s more than just a degree; it’s about the journey of expanding one’s mind, developing critical thinking, and preparing to contribute meaningfully to the world. To all the students and educators gearing up for the school year: remember that the value of your education isn’t defined by the latest headlines or opinions. It’s defined by the hard work you and the difficult path you walked to get here. Let’s continue to champion true learning, wherever it takes place. Here’s to a year of effort, difficulty, and doing things that matter! #simonsinek
