What a great New Student Orientation Week! Imagine, starting your new business Ph.D. program with a session on “Diagnosing and Blocking Bias in Everyday Interactions." That is exactly what happened at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Two of our Lab directors, Sara Jordan-Bloch and Shannon Gilmartin, led students through the 90-minute session where they reviewed the latest research on how bias chips away at strong cultures and interpersonal relationships, and what we can do to combat those biases in the moment. Students engaged in reflection and break-out groups, and identified key ways to re-think peer interactions, the job application process, and more. The session concluded with hope and excitement for the community and culture that students themselves build together every day. ? In designing and presenting this session, we thank our long-time partners Dianne Le and Joan Menees at the GSB, as well as our colleagues Lori Nishiura Mackenzie and Sarah Soule for originating these learning-centered sessions several years ago. ? #futurescholars #impact

As we count down to graduation, take a moment to meet @CornellDysonSchool’s Matthew Sovik ‘24 ?? Q: What will you always remember about your time at Cornell? A: "I will always remember the community of peers and mentors I had in Dyson. I learned so much from my classmates both in and out of the classroom, as they consistently motivated me to better myself and explore new interests. The atmosphere and support students receive and engage with in Dyson is truly special." Q: How will you use this lesson or knowledge in the future? A: As I enter my career and new opportunities arise both in and outside of my workplace, I will continue to pursue my goals and advocate for myself to access these opportunities. I’ve learned so much about confidence and the ability to assert my best self during my time at Cornell, and I plan to keep this learning with me in future endeavors. Q: Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a #Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell? A: At Cornell, I have been engaged with social impact through extracurricular and course commitments across all four years of my time here. Social impact was integrated into so many aspects of my Cornell experience that it is inevitable that I will carry it into my future career and life. Although it may be difficult to have a significant social impact starting out as an analyst at a bulge bracket bank, I hope that later in my career I am able to transition to a career directly involving social impact. ?? What if you could skip the university grind and still thrive professionally? That's exactly what I explored. That's a fascinating topic! Many people question the traditional path of higher education and wonder if there are alternative routes to success. What were some of your key findings? Did you discover specific industries or fields where self-learning and practical experience are more valued than formal degrees? Or perhaps you explored successful individuals who have achieved significant accomplishments without a traditional university education? I'm curious to hear more about your insights and experiences.

■ As I step into my final year of college, I can’t help but look back on these last three years with immense gratitude and nostalgia. Each day on campus has been a mix of learning, growth, and unforgettable memories that have truly shaped me. ■ The campus itself is more than just a collection of buildings; it’s where my journey of self-discovery began. Walking through the corridors, I’m reminded of my early days exploring the vast network of labs and study halls. Our labs, bustling with activity, have been a place of experimentation, collaboration, and hands-on learning. The energy and curiosity in the labs have fueled my passion and curiosity to push boundaries, solve complex problems, and refine my skills. ■ Lectures, too, have been an experience in themselves. Each professor brought not only subject expertise but also a unique perspective that has broadened my understanding. The lively discussions and debates have fostered a culture of critical thinking that I’ll carry forward into my career. ■ Beyond academics, sports events have been a highlight, filling the campus with excitement and a sense of unity. Cheering on our teams and participating in intercollegiate competitions has taught me the value of teamwork and perseverance. These moments have strengthened bonds with friends and taught us resilience, both on and off the field. ■ Now, as I step into my final year, I feel a blend of excitement and determination. I’m ready to make the most of every moment and prepare for the professional journey that lies ahead.

EDIT: BOOM, they are out! and the topic is: Wharton's Impact Communities, asking the interviewees to design a global Impact Community... fun, fun, fun ~~~~~~ EDIT 2: You can sign up for my sessions here: https://lnkd.in/dDhvdSNT TBD, TBD, TBD. (iykyk)... and if you don't I'll tell you. #TBD or team-based discussion is what the Wharton MBA program calls its interview process. And today is the day they announce which R1 #MBA applicants are invited to participate in a TBD. So, what's a TBD, you ask? Wharton will assign you a case/topic/project that you & 4-5 other #applicants will work together to solve. It is done online, via Zoom, and is moderated by a Wharton interviewer (often a second-year student). In past years, Wharton asked interviewees to organize an event to open Tangen Hall, to prepare a Global Immersion Program abroad, and to create a curriculum for students of the Wharton Global Youth Program. There are some people who has suggested that this is a great way for Wharton to gather ideas for these programs, but who knows. What we do know is that #admissions considers the TBD a good proxy for how you will behave/contribute/enhance a classroom discussion. I'll share more later, but for now.. GOOD LUCK to everyone waiting for that invite, and to get these dates on your calendar: my unique, up-close&personal "TBD Super Sessions" where I gather 6 invitees to practice and improve their TBD performance: 30 OCT. 4 NOV. CET 6am, 9am, 2pm, 8pm Once the invites are out, I'll post more about the details and pricing. Fingers crossed, Candy #mbaClarity #mbaadmissionsconsulting

Hello Big Fellows! Embarking on your journey into university or college is an exhilarating milestone, yet it often comes with uncertainties. From my experience guiding countless students through this transition, I've observed a common trend: many are unprepared for what lies ahead—beyond the freedom from school and home supervision. It's easy to get swept up in the excitement without fully grasping the significant investment your education represents—often millions. Joining a university isn't just about making friends; it's about stepping into a world where responsibility, organization, and thoughtful action are paramount. As you embark on this transformative journey in 2024, remember: your time here is more than an opportunity—it's a commitment to personal growth and academic excellence. #UniversityLife #CollegeJourney #StudentTransition #NewBeginnings #CollegeExpectations #AcademicExcellence

Harvard Business School - 1963 Batch were asked at their 50th reunion advice for their younger generation. Some of their thoughts on fulfilling career which resonated with me: - Choose work that brings joy and benefits others. Wealth is a byproduct of service well-rendered. - Continuous self-education is key in a fast-evolving world. Stay adaptable, stay relevant. Keep learning adjacent skills. Marketing -> Psychology - Seize learning opportunities, even if it means stepping into the unknown. Comfort zones often limit growth. - Adopt a modest lifestyle. Financial freedom enables choices aligned with your values, not your bills. - To truly thrive, find what ignites your passion/hobby outside of work. For me, it is writing dramas. - You want to start up: and the vision is clear, but your plan is not. Then, work for an admired entity in your field to gain experience. It’s a strategic stepping stone.

As we count down to graduation, take a moment to meet @CornellDysonSchool’s Josh Figueroa ‘24 ?? Q: What is the most valuable thing you learned in your time at Cornell? A: The most valuable thing I learned at Cornell was to be curious. I found immense value in learning more about my professors' and peers’ backgrounds outside of an academic setting. Q: Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a #Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell? A: As I transition to my career and life after Cornell, I will always exercise the act of service and keep in mind its relevance and positive impact on many people. The service of others, whether it was a professor extending their office hours or an upperclassman sharing their wisdom with me, has positively shaped my time at Cornell, and this is something that I will always be grateful for. I plan to provide service to others, whether sharing my wisdom and experiences with undergraduate students, engaging in alum programming events, or participating in any philanthropic efforts. Q: Tell us what made your Dyson experience so impactful. A: My Dyson experience has been tremendous because of the curriculum, faculty investment in the student's development and learning, and endless professional resources. Our students can pursue and learn about their desired career paths, whether it's in financial services, consulting, or any other pocket in the business world. Our dedicated professors and student and career services offices make this possible [...] to ensure that we're in the best possible position for life after Dyson. ?? Photo provided by Josh Figueroa
