Proud ARCE moment! We are so, so pleased that Andrew Simon, an ARCE Fellow from 2014-2015 and now senior lecturer of Middle Eastern studies at Dartmouth College, has received the thirty-fifth Modern Language Association Prize for Contingent Faculty and Independent Scholars by the Modern Language Association of America in December! The award was for his book Media of the Masses: Cassette Culture in Modern Egypt, published by Stanford University Press in 2022, which explores cassette tape culture and everyday technology in Egypt. "My time as an ARCE Fellow played a central part in what would become Media of the Masses, a book that was a decade in the making and the outcome of countless experiences in Egypt. Without ARCE's generous support, this project would not have been possible," shares Andrew. And to add more excitement to the news, Dar El Shorouk - ??? ?????? in Egypt will be publishing an Arabic translation of Media of the Masses? under the title: ????? ????????: ????? ??????? ?? ???
