I've been sick so I definitely do not look like this ?? I have been sipping tea though!!! Like many of you, life has a way of reminding me to slow down, often through my body.? For the past week or so, I have had to step back and focus on resting and recovering. This experience has reminded me of several important truths: ?? Our healthcare systems and workplaces aren’t set up to support Black women in the ways we need. We often find ourselves navigating environments where spaciousness for rest and recovery isn’t prioritized or encouraged. ?Self-care and squad (community) care are so critical. We must intentionally make room to rest, use our PTO unapologetically, and create supportive spaces to uplift and care for each other. ??? We must also lead and advocate for workplaces that truly see us and value our wellbeing. It’s time to build work cultures that support all of us to rest and thrive—not just push through. Rest isn't a luxury; it's a human right. ? Literally rest is a human right, and we should be able to take time off when we are ill .... as a Human Rights Scholar, I think Articles 24 and 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights seem most pertinent here. Yea, this is the type of shit I think of when I'm sick, lol. Oh, and if you want to geek out on Human Rights, Education, let me know. #restfulleadership #restisahumanright #takeyourPTO #selfcare #squadcare #wegongetwellsoon #RestfulLeadership #RestIsResistance #HealthFirst #SelfCare #CommunityCare

Watching my children unwrap Christmas presents, the table laden with a feast, and the warmth of family laughter filling the air, I can't help but reflect on the stark contrast to the lives of many around the world. My travels have shown me firsthand the immense disadvantage faced by countless individuals in other countries. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities that have allowed me to build this life – the education, the freedoms, the ability to pursue my dreams. But this privilege comes with a profound responsibility. What does true equality look like on a global scale? Perhaps the answer lies in a collective effort to foster peace and happiness worldwide. This requires: * Recognizing the inherent value and unique purpose of every individual. * Creating communities that support the discovery and fulfillment of that purpose. * Ensuring meaningful work, equal pay, and access to quality healthcare and education for all. * Empowering both men and women to reach their full potential. * Implementing effective prison reform and rehabilitation strategies to provide second chances and enhance the workforce. * Recognizing and upholding companies' social responsibility to provide livable wages and policies that support healthy living and work-life balance. * Cultivating a world that values aesthetics and creative thinking, fostering a more beautiful and enriching environment for all. This vision of a future where everyone has the chance to thrive may seem idealistic, but I believe it's attainable. It requires us to move beyond individual ambition and embrace a shared responsibility for the well-being of our global community. #globalcitizenship #socialjustice #equality #humanrights #givingback #prisonreform #rehabilitation #livablewage #corporatesocialresponsibility #worklifebalance #healthyliving #aesthetics #creativity #beautifulworld

?? Empowering Our Leaders to Better Support Our Clients ?? This week, we had the privilege of welcoming Brady F. Powers, MA, CPWIC from The Center on Community Living & Careers at the Institute on Disability & Community at Indiana University to train our leadership team! Brady shared invaluable insights about how working, benefits, and reporting intersect and how these factors impact the individuals we support. The training reinforced a critical truth: it’s always financially better to be working. ?? Did You Know? Working doesn’t necessarily mean losing benefits! In fact, many individuals can earn income while maintaining essential supports. With the right guidance and understanding of the system, people with disabilities can thrive in employment and achieve greater independence. At Stone Belt, our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to live meaningful and fulfilling lives, and employment is a vital part of that journey. Work provides not just financial stability but also a sense of purpose, connection, and contribution to the community. We are so grateful to Brady for helping us deepen our knowledge and for equipping our leadership with tools to better advocate for our clients. Together, we’re working to create opportunities and break down barriers so that everyone can experience the dignity and rewards of employment. ?? Join Us in Supporting Our Mission: Advocate for inclusive hiring practices. Learn more about how employment supports can work alongside benefits. Help spread the word: Employment empowers everyone. #StoneBeltStrong #EmploymentEmpowers #InclusionMatters #DisabilityAdvocacy #CommunityConnections #AlwaysBetterWorking

So which states do you think have the worse quality of life in the United States. The job market may have cooled a bit, but there are still far more job openings nationwide than there are people available to fill them. That means qualified workers are still a precious commodity. So, companies seeking to attract great employees like to set up shop in states that offer a great quality of life. While some states are more than happy to oblige, these are not those states. They are America’s worst states to live and work in. Each year, CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business study considers quality of life among ten categories of competitiveness used to rank the states. Under this year’s methodology, the Quality of Life category counts for 13% of a state’s overall score.? They score each state on multiple livability factors including crime rates, health care, air quality and child care. They also consider worker protections, and legal safeguards against discrimination of all kinds. And, they look at personal freedom including reproductive rights. So which rates the worse???? Check it out, would that be your worst choice?

Embracing Humanity with Compassion Leave It's not just about ticking boxes on legal requirements—it's about recognizing the real, sometimes messy, human experiences of our teams. ?? From the heartbreak of a failed adoption or abortion to the grief of losing a furry family member, life throws curveballs that don’t fit neatly into standard leave policies. Offering compassion leave says, "We get it, and we've got you." This approach to benefits isn't about high utilization rates. It’s about making a profound difference for those few who face these tough moments. For them, this benefit will mean the world and solidify you as the company that truly supports its people when they need it most. Call it a crusade, but I believe compassion leave is a crucial way for an employer brand to manifest its values and for a company to show its true character. #HR #CompassionLeave #EmpathyAtWork

I move through this world seeing systems, and interconnectedness. It’s the way I process almost everything. I’m seeing socially isolated people just not understanding interdependence, or not caring to understand. We have broken systems that need fixing, and it seems many people don’t see these mechanisms, and their impacts. We truly can’t comprehend all the wasted talent from not engaging more people into funded and supported health and education systems. Inclusion is not a buzz word. When it is your lens for the world, you see all the hate and isolation in others in technicolor. They “don’t get it”. I’m not trying to sound like a hippie, but this stuff causes wars instead of peaceful solutions. It defunds healthcare, and murders people by paperwork. I think this is directly related to our labour and work environments, so I thought I’d post my humble thought here. Quality interpersonal relationships extend to communities, extends to the state. Sending ?? to my network and friends. #labour #labor #inclusion #antifascist #disability #healthcare #systems #equity #dyslexic
