Hello and welcome to our series of Lenten video reflections here. Very happy to be with you. Thanks for tuning in. It's amazing to think another year in the Church's liturgy has passed by, and here we are again at the start of another Lent. It's always amazing how fast time flies by. But nonetheless, here we are, start of length, so always a good time just to remind ourselves what exactly Lent is all about. And Lent is moving towards and climaxing with the great Sacred Tritium. The Sacred Tritium is that collection of feast days in the life of the Church, celebrating the Passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord. Those climactic moments in salvation history which we threw the Church's liturgy are able to enter into, participate in and receive the great fruits of. But the Church understands very well that in order to do that, we need to be ready, we need to be prepared. You think of our Lord's first coming in the flesh 2000 years ago. It wasn't enough to just say I know one day the Messiah is coming. You had to be ready. And so, of course, you were sent John the Baptist to make the path straight to help you get ready for that coming of the Lord. So too is the Church fulfilling that similar role in bidding us to get ready for the coming of our Lord. Granted, he's coming in a different way than he did 2000 years ago. He's coming to us here through the Church's liturgy. But nonetheless, we still need to be ready. We have these great climactic events of His Passion, death, and resurrection. And we need to be ready for them. It all starts with the night of Holy Thursday, the Last Supper Mass, and then it moves on to the Good Friday services, and then we get the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord, beginning with the Easter Vigil, and everything of Lent is moving towards this by way of preparing for it. Anticipating those wonderful moments of salvation history that we get to enter into through the liturgy as we go day by day, step by step, closer to their great commemoration. So keep that in mind during Lent. This is not the church just telling you to pray more, because it's always good to pray more. It's not the church telling you to fast because we probably do eat too much, so we should limit the amount of food we're eating. And it's not just the church telling you to give all this because we probably are too attached to material goods. So it's very helpful to give money and the things of this world away to those in need, especially. Those are all true. But even more so, the church is bidding us to pray, to fast, to give alms. With the sacred tritium in mind. So always keep that at the heart of your Lenten activities that this is all moving towards these wonderful events of salvation history made present for us today, beginning with the Last Supper Mass.
