New at Sports Business Journal: Former Arizona Coyotes executive Nick Sakiewicz is endorsing state legislation that he hopes will help a group unconnected to the team build a mixed-use development near Mesa that could include a professional soccer stadium. If passed, the bill could also help his former employer finance a mixed-use development in Phoenix by cutting the city out of the process. Key questions here: ? Could the Mesa development group, which is led by The Pinebrook Group, lure Major League Soccer and/or the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) to the region? ?? Would the legislation make it easier for the Coyotes (who say they aren't involved in pushing the bill) to establish a "theme park district" to help finance their mixed-use project? ?? How would the public and local politicians react to the Coyotes pursuing theme park district status, which would allow the team to levy sales tax of up to 9% on purchases made on the property?

Yes, I am a huge Chicago Bears fan (and I've suffered for decades, like all Bears fans). Whether or not you are a Bears fan, you might find some takeaways from this video. I always enjoy listening to how people present their vision and their "why". The video is about 10-minutes in length. Many of the compelling points of the vision of this project relate to community planning. Some of the themes include: -Open space for children to play -Athletic green spaces for youth to come together and be productive and healthy -Integration into built and natural environment -Building recreational and cultural campus -Young students to study in parks and open space and bring back their education into classrooms -A destination where people want to visit and spend time -Year-round campus activation through recreation -Cultural arts focus -Catalyst to help address youth safety -Ecological and sensitive approach -Preserving viewshed While the specifics of the funding model have not yet been clearly shared, it is mentioned that project may cost over $4billion with a percentage (mentioned as much as 50%) from public funding.
