Collaborating with other teams: The AML onboarding expert needs to work closely with other teams such as sales, account management, customer support, and product engineering to ensure that the onboarding process is seamless and efficient. Conducting training sessions: The AML onboarding expert need to design standard training sessions to help customers learn how to use the software and design their own risk and treatment policies in line with the AML regulatory requirements of a specific region. This may involve guiding the customer with UAT and answering queries post GoLive. Monitoring progress to GoLive: The AML onboarding expert must track the progress of new customers to ensure that they are successfully onboarded onto the platform and are using the software in right way to meet Go Live timelines. This may involve gathering feedback, identifying areas of improvement, and making necessary adjustments to the onboarding process. Developing relationships: The onboarding expert should build strong relationships with new customers to ensure that they feel supported and valued. This may involve providing ongoing support, answering questions, and addressing any concerns or issues that arise during the onboarding process. In one of my previous posts, I wrote about steps to pursue a career in global KYC & AML for free. I discussed three key components: 1?? Knowledge: Thorough understanding & interest 2?? Certification: Provided links for 5 free AML courses 3?? Network: Advised to establish connections & request referrals Today, I'll speak about the third component - Networking. Most people I see, once they send a connection request, ask for referrals in completely the wrong way. Here are a few referral requests I've received from my connections: ??"Any opening in your company?" ??"Kindly let me know if any vacancy" ??"Please refer me" ??"Can you share any HR contact or LinkedIn?" ??Thumb rule: As a requester, you should make their job easy. How can you do that? By 'being specific'. Don't be entitled & say 'refer me' but search for an opening, share the exact role & role ID for which you want to be referred. Make it difficult for them to say 'NO' by requiring less effort from them. Example: (Inspired by Sahaj Bana): "Hello Akir , I came across a job posting for [#position] role at [#company] and noticed you hold the same position. I have [#years] of experience and am currently seeking new opportunities. I was wondering if you could refer me for [#role_ID]. Good afternoon, LinkedIn connections. I am still looking for a new role where I can utilize my experience and skills. I am here to report that there is still a lot of ghosting from potential employers but it is not as bad as it used to be in early 2024. I reaching out to you to ask that you forward any compliance-related leads my way. My challenge has been that the bulk of my experience has been in registration and I am being passed over any AML, KYC, etc., roles because of that. It seems like the hiring managers are looking for an exact 100% match for what they are posting for, or they think candidates will not stay long-term. To the first point, hire the person who matches 80% of what you are looking for. Any experienced compliance person will quickly learn new compliance rules. Chances are, they have already been exposed to those rules and have some knowledge of what you want this candidate to do. The candidate will spend more time learning your internal processes and procedures which will solidify the rules. To the latter point, hiring managers should not be worried about how long a person stays with the company. Their responsibility is to fill the vacancy. The company culture and how the manager treats that person determines whether this employee will stay long-term.

Conduct initial analysis of customer transactions using internal/external research tools to assess and determine if the transactions seem plausible or if there is reasonable suspicion that the transaction involves money laundering. ? Identification of suspicious or unusual transactions, non-compliant activity, or increased compliance risk. ? Accurately document rationale for alert closure or escalation as appropriate ? Undertake prompt closure of eligible alerts not deemed as unusual or suspicious. ? Raise RFI request for alerts requiring further information. ? ??Pro-Tip: There Are Plenty Of Ways To Get Into Crypto Compliance?? Many think they have to be a traditional AML or Compliance professional But that is simply not true. I have seen so many transition into crypto from a legal perspective, law enforcement and even data science background. But “back in my day” ???? customer support professionals were the most likely candidate to graduate into compliance. Over the last 2 weeks myself and Rodney MacInnes CAMS, CBP, CEP, CRC has the opportunity to train customer support reps at a top crypto exchange. Honestly this is my favorite training as customer support are usually those that have direct exposure to insights from customers on scams and pig butchering schemes. I think more customer support, onboarding and KYC analysts and operational professionals have a real good shot to transition into investigation roles during the next hiring craze. ??
