Starting the day motivated to move the dial on access to capital. Thanks to Janneke Niessen of CapitalT and Global Policy Journal at Durham University for this compelling piece on the business case, challenges, and opportunities for investing in women founders. The quote that stood out the most to me: "Venture capitalists need to look beyond their network and begin seeing diversity not as a quota to be met but as a byproduct of finding the best founders.?" So true, yet, the companion to this is the comment near the end of the article is also crucial. "Some companies that have reached?$1 billion in value?led by women include Bumble Inc., Credit Karma, 23andMe, and Proactiv." As a community of VCs and investors, we need to tell the stories of female and non-binary founders who have acheived success - with financial and impact metrics, and a different stages and in different geographies.
