Known as the “Choice of Champions,” Clermont has a reputation as a training ground for athletes, from high school athletes and regional record-breakers to Olympians; among those who have lived or trained here are Shane Greene, an MLB pitcher for the Atlanta Braves who was named an All Star in 2019; Nina Kraft, the oldest professional female Ironman winner; and Noah Lyles, an Olympic Gold Medalist and world record-holding sprinter. In 2018, it was designated as a Trail Town by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Greenways and Trails System and has been nationally certified as a runner-friendly and bicycle-friendly community. Don’t miss the picturesque 13-mile South Lake Trail, with hills, lakes and panoramic vistas. It’s part of the under-construction Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail, which, when completed, will stretch from the east to west coasts of Florida, from Titusville to St. Petersburg. Clermont was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916, when its main industry was citrus production (that industry thrived until the 1960s). Today, it is the largest city in Lake County, one of the fastest growing counties in Florida. Its historic downtown is the heartbeat of the city, supported by Clermont Main Street, a passionate group of businesses and volunteers working to revitalize the area through a mix of public funding, grants, sponsorships and community events. The Empire State Golf Alliance, comprised of the?New York State Golf Associations, PGA Sections, GCSAA chapters, New York Turfgrass Association, CMAA chapters, and the NGCOA is conducting a study on the?Economic and Environmental Impact of Golf in New York. I first met Hannah at a quarterly Culture Crush Business LLC. (owned by our local fave Kindra Maples) event in Mesa. I had a table there, and she walked up. We started chatting, and she shared that she had just started working for another firm in the Valley as a recruiter and had not done that before. I was struck by how sharp and poised she was. And confident. Especially when you consider she was in such a new field. Her presence stuck with me, and we stayed in touch over the coming months. I learned that recruiting wasn't her only interest. I learned she enjoyed dabbling in marketing, social media, website design, and project management. I learned that she had a passion for nonprofits, for helping others succeed, and for bringing visions to life. I already knew she enjoyed networking since that was how we met. Then she mentioned HR as a future interest area. Well, I'll tell you, friends, an idea began to form in the back of my mind... Fast forward another few months, Copper Quail Consulting has taken off, my pants are on fire, Martin is cutting back his hours for school, and I find myself at a turning point - start turning down work and keep playing small OR hire some help and soar! It was an honour to attend this event and reconnect with some colleagues that were integral on some very important brownfield remediation projects in Brantford. The Greenwich-Mohawk remediation project was one that was highlighted at this event and one that I was so fortunate to spend almost two years of my career working on with all the amazing stakeholders involved. Brantford is a city rich with industrial heritage and more importantly, a city that prioritizes an ongoing commitment to remediating sites with remaining environmental issues inherent in such a progressive industrial history. Beyond this overarching commitment, Jacobs and the City of Brantford collaborated on a remedial approach on the Greenwich-Mohawk site that diverted solid and liquid waste (to the greatest extent possible) by the on-site treatment and re-use of contaminated soils and groundwater. Fun facts about the Greenwich-Mohawk Remediation include: 1. 40,000 tonnes of concrete (slabs, foundation walls, and footings) excavated, crushed and reused on-site 2. 120,000 m3 of clean overburden soil excavated, stockpiled and backfilled upon completion of soil remediation 3. 86,000 tonnes of soil impacted with PHCs and metals excavated and disposed off-site at a MECP-licensed landfill? 4. 105,000 m3 of soil impacted with PHCs screened to segregate coarse and fine materials 5. 39,000 m3 of fine-grained soils impacted with PHCs treated on-site in biopiles and reused on-site (backfilled) 6. 66,000 m3 of coarse-grained material impacted with PHCs treated on-site and reused on-site (backfilled) 7. 140,000 L of free-phase petroleum hydrocarbons (LNAPL) recovered from the groundwater and recycled off-site 8. 30,000,000 L of groundwater impacted with PHCs pumped and treated on-site 9. 30,000 tonnes of clear stone and granular fill imported to the site for backfilling What else can I say? Day 30 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: A specific shout out for Belong in Plymouth! Plymouth is one of 5 projects nationwide that are exploring how to tackle complex health inequalities. In Plymouth we are developing a network called Belong in Plymouth; connecting individuals who aspire to make Plymouth a city where no one feels forgotten. The sheer scale and complexity of isolation and its effects on health mean we know we need to explore and search for answers together - NHS, Statutory Services, the VCSE and individual citizens. This includes deepening our understanding of the system and context together through listening and conversations with communities where they are heard as respected peers. So far we have spent ￡345,000 and with this we have: Collected 120 conversations resulting in 790+ fragments, 53 factors, 12 themes, 1 map: https://buff.ly/47WjD3x We have 13 young people leading their own work and 22 local residents participating in co-creation processes. Engaged with 399 participants through wider events (e.g. Neighbourhood democracy, Hope in the Heart, Health is Wealth), 198 through sensemaking workshops, 105 through conversation processing workshops.
