Is October too early for Christmas meal occasions? As an ex Christmas Cookies Seller, I’d argue that the Christmas build up starts, well, pretty much now ?? On the other extreme, those non-Christmas lovers amongst us, aka Grinches, would argue that Christmas carols playing on the 24th of December is ‘too close’ to Christmas… ?? So, when do Aussie & Kiwi households actually start to get into the culinary Christmas spirit? Turns out, I’m a tad too keen when it comes to kicking things off. Looking at last Christmas through our Appetise data, we can see when households starting to hunt for Christmas related meal occasions. ?? Check out the graph below ???? As a brand, being able to see when Christmas meal occasions are starting to pop into shopper’s minds can be a huge unlock. Rather than activating too early (or too late), you can now get it just right. So, are you a ‘Christmas carols in September’ kind of person, or a 24th of December is ‘too close’ person? ???? — For other thoughts on start up world, insights and the FMCG industry, give me a follow Matt Dawson

THE MILK TRAY MAN You know the one…the ad from the 70s, 80s, 90s, where the chap’s dressed from head-to-toe in black, and going to extraordinary lengths to make sure his chocolates are always delivered on time and in pristine condition to the lucky recipient. “All because the lady loves ??…” n’all that. This December - although I’ll not be dressed head-to-toe in black, nor styling it out whilst jumping through windows and climbing up the side of buildings - I’ll yet again be crisscrossing the countryside, making sure all of our Truffle & Thyme Christmas hampers are safely delivered, yes, you guessed it…on time and in pristine condition ??! Last December I did the same, and the year before that, and the year before that - this will be Christmas no.5 doing it like this in fact. Instinctively, you might well wonder why I don’t use a courier? It’s not that I don’t want to; when the volume of sales dictates it, I’ll be the first person to pick up the phone to Darren Moore from Dash Couriers. The way I see it is that if I CAN do it myself, then I WILL do it. Maybe this December might be the tipping point for me and Truffle & Thyme, but that’s growth, which is a good thing thing. However, it won’t mean I’ll stop delivering myself; I’ll still be out there chewing up the miles, but hopefully leaving the extras to be taken care of by Darren and his team. So, if you’re looking for some delicious team or client gifts this December, personally hand-delivered, then look no further. I’ll quite literally go the extra mile for you. “All because….” it’s Christmas! https://lnkd.in/ec2ED-ZS

Everyone bought a ticket that was supposed to include a meal. It was prime dinner time. Bellies were starting to rumble. And then… we found out that the food wasn’t coming. ??♀? That’s what happened just before our International Women’s Day Soirée started. In the eleventh hour, we discovered there was a date mix-up with catering. Our *own* stomachs dropped—and then we kicked into high gear. Rachel and I started scrambling to assemble refreshments. With some help from our members, we made a quick run to Whole Foods for charcuterie boards and ordered quesadillas. However, it wasn't the meal everyone had anticipated. The event was still inspiring, educational, and loads of fun. We did our best to make it up to everyone by offering attendees free access to a future event. But it felt disastrous in the moment. Of course, that’s always how it feels when plans or expectations fall short. We feel inadequate or afraid of what others will think. Here’s the thing. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how you own and respond to the hiccup. Whether it’s a dry spell in business, a mistake in a project, a marketing campaign that flops (or a hungry crowd), you can bounce back. That’s resilience. As business owners, we’re not going to dodge every obstacle that comes our way, and that’s a good thing. We can use our reactions to build ourselves up and show our people what we value. It’s easy when it’s easy. What really counts is what you do in the midst of—and in response to—the hiccups. Remember that next time you’re unexpectedly faced with a hungry crowd.

Absolutely! Understanding the nuances between self-worth and self-value is crucial for personal development. While self-worth emphasizes the intrinsic value we place on ourselves, self-value focuses on the actions we take to uphold that worth. Achievements can indeed boost our sense of self-acceptance and value, but it's important to remember that our worth isn't solely determined by external validation or accomplishments. Recognizing our inherent value and treating ourselves with compassion and respect are key components of fostering a healthy self-image.

Is it too early? I bet you think it's too early!! Don't worry, we don't have the Christmas decorations up just yet at Upperlands Coffee Company; but we are putting the word out if you want any commercial orders for Christmas now is the time to think about placing an order. Coffee makes a popular employee or customer gift for the festive season, either as a standalone gift or a fab addition to a Christmas hamper, especially when it is the freshest, local, hand-roasted coffee. Please get in touch to discuss options

"Gratuity is not required but much appreciated." Why did I keep this receipt, which I never do? Because the waitress made me smile, made me feel special. She could not be expecting a big tip, as we just ate two mushroom soups and had double free dose of bread (amazing sweet bread they have in Tallin), but due to a heart with a smile, I was ready to give her a bigger tip, and I did! I wanted to remember her act and it's impact on me, bigger tip and amazing review from us. What do you call this? Good marketing? Or good service? #marketing #business #creativity #services #tallin

Rules Shmules! Is that how you even spell "shmules"? That thought popped into my head this morning as I went to grab my coffee mug. We have a ton of coffee mugs, so it's always a big decision which one to use. I grabbed my Life is Good Christmas mug with Santa on it. I almost put it back. Why? Because it's not Christmas. I'm not kidding? Well, I threw caution to the wind & went for it - I decided to be crazy today & I'm enjoying my coffee in my Christmas mug. ?? It got me thinking... ?? How many things do we do or not do because of the supposed "norm"? We've been conditioned to believe that so many things are black & white. I remember seeing a keynote speaker one time and he talked about switching things up & doing things differently - keeping things fresh & exciting. He said that sometimes his family would eat dessert first, before the main meal. Said the kids loved it! I'm sure & I certainly can't fathom us doing that when I was a kid. I was forced to eat all my peas before I could get up from the table! How many people do we see on LI or Facebook preaching "their" way as the only way? A ton! While there are some general Do's & Don'ts (aka rules) for certain things, very few things are black & white. There's more than just one way to do it - whatever works for you, whatever makes you happy. Just like Outback Steakhouse says, "No rules, just right". Outback Steakhouse first launched that marketing campaign back in 2013. It's their way of saying... "We take our food seriously, without forgetting any of the fun, knowing that nothing stands in the way of making you happy." Well, what about us? We can take things seriously & still have fun - do what works for us, do the things that make us happy - like drinking coffee out of my Life is Good Santa mug! ? No rules, just right! Today is a GREAT day for a GREAT day, MAKE it so, for YOU & for SOMEONE else! ??
