After speaking with over 100 Swap Dealers and Brokers, I realized that the majority of them don’t know what a “Swap Data Repository” is. I believe they are missing out on valuable information that could help them win more trades. Swap Data Repositories (SDRs) were created by the CFTC after the 2008 financial crisis to increase transparency in the uncleared over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market. Swap dealers and their clients now report their trades to the CFTC, with the goal of reducing systemic risk and ensuring market integrity. Most dealers and brokers only analyze exchange-traded markets, and as such, miss out on some of the largest and most important trades executed OTC. Players who analyze SDRs have a competitive edge in understanding what their competition is doing, and more importantly, how they can win more trades. What’s the catch? Swap Dealers don’t want their competition to know what they are doing, so the trades submitted to the SDRs are intentionally erroneous and obfuscated. Per DF reg, swap dealers are required to report "accurate" data or be subject to penalties and fines. Does this mean that the CFTC doesn't actually verify / audit transactions to ensure reporting accuracy?
I would venture to guess many insurance business executives have little or no idea of what the Insurance Data Repositories are to the Insurance Commission. Kyle Loomis Very interesting and worth while project to create a cresting structure enhancing global liquidity and increase risk management layers for MIS reporting and trade capture reporting.
