SWC on the road! Jessica C. headed to Virginia to present on a panel at the SNAP E&T Forum this week alongside colleagues from National Association of Workforce Boards, Seattle Jobs Initiative, and San Diego Workforce Partnership. The panel presented on the power of SNAP E&T alignment and partnership with local workforce development boards. Jessica was also able to hear from a panel of Congressional staff on the future of the Farm Bill, attended a session on learning to liaise with Tribal Nations, and heard about potential philanthropy partnerships. That’s our Division Executive of Programs & Development for you—always making waves and doing great work, Jessica!

Passionate communications professional who is all about helping clients engage with their audiences and other communicators be the best they can be.
We don’t often talk about how hard it is to run a small business. It’s amazing, rewarding, stressful, hard work. As Elm moves into its sixth year in business I wanted to stop and reflect on what a wild ride it has been this last year. #smallbusiness #canberra #communications #consultants
"Every year, I stop to celebrate Elm’s birthday. It’s a milestone—fifty per cent of all small businesses don’t make it to five years. We have now exceeded that. It’s a moment to celebrate the hard work and effort my team and I have put in. What a year it has been!" May marked six years of Elm Communications, so it felt right to take a moment to reflect on the past year. In our latest blog, Mel talks about why this has been the best and the hardest yet. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/g73MmPhf #elmcommunications #communications #birthday #smallbusiness

What's going on? How to do we fix it? If you're hiring development staff -- or trying to hang on to the ones you have -- read this post. https://lnkd.in/emRXCCdD

Working with your board and council is key to aligning strategy for the future of your community. A reminder that in our industry, an open mind is one of the best things a board, council or court member can bring to the table. Grateful to have that in a community where I work AND live. #medc #mckinney #mckinneytexas #mckinneytx #pipeline #projectpipeline #development #economicdevelopment #land #landdevelopment #strategy #strategicthinking #strategicplanning #boardretreat
We spent the day yesterday with our staff and board evaluating and strategizing about our high-level misson, KPI's, and goals, and it felt only fitting to end the day on the eighth floor of the District 121 Building as the highest point in McKinney. Thankful to have a board and staff with great vision to see the future, hearts to strengthen the community, and hands to work out what strategic growth in McKinney can look like. We are back, baby! And we're stoked to invite you all to the FOURTH season of Racial Justice Weavings. These weekly gatherings are for outdoor education and recreation professionals from any school, company, or organization, in any role. First-timers and old-timers all welcome and encouraged! If you are seeking support for: processing your summer or fall season with a racial justice lens, racial justice work you're doing in your own family or workplace, or your personal liberation practice, join us. We're here to do it in community. Logistics: - Wednesday evenings on Zoom, 6-8pm MST - September 4 - December 11, 2024 (with a few breaks in there) - Sliding scale pricing and we will not let cost be a barrier to anyone participating. In September 2020, we (Steph and Ella) began hosting a weekly space for our fellow backpacking and climbing instructors to talk about white supremacy, racism, and racial justice in outdoor education. The Racial Justice Weavings - "Weavings" - were named to place this gathering within its context: a long history and future of racial justice advocacy in outdoor spaces and education. The goal was to foster antiracist culture in our outdoor leadership school through collective learning and relationship-building. This relational, culture-shifting work is slow but it is powerful. We have learned and grown a lot together in the last four years, and we’re eager to keep building and deepening with the next cohort. Message [email protected] to sign up.
