Dynautics is a pioneering provider of intelligent technology to control uncrewed marine missions worldwide. Whilst exhibiting at Oceanology International, Managing Director Henry Robinson took the time to update us on a fascinating application of their technology. Dynautics was approached by a company based in California that put solar cell platforms on reservoirs. The purpose of this is two-fold - keeping sunlight from hitting the water and creating unwanted algae, and harvesting a renewable energy source. However, this company needed to ensure the solar cells are always facing the sun, so Dynautics created an autopilot for them to keep the platform in the centre of the reservoir, by using thrusters to adjust its position. ? Vast majority of German farmers ready to embrace agrivoltaics A new survey conducted by Germany’s Fraunhofer ISE showed that 72.4% of the country’s farmers are considering the deployment of an agrivoltaic project. It's time the government followed Now Then's lead and blew the whistle for the last time on Drax Group and its insatiable appetite for burning trees while warming its hands burning through billions of taxpayer funded subsidies. If we stop the latter we save the trees. Something the City of #Sheffield is very much in favour of now that it has admitted the folly of felling trees, causing much unrest in the leafier groves of academe, in the self-styled Outdoor City. Odd then that The University of Sheffield, many of whose fellows were among the most vocal of those opposed to the fellers, recently made Drax Group a founding partner of its flagship Energy Innovation Centre. The press notice from the university did not say how much Drax Group is investing in the new centre - perhaps Now Then or another independent journalist will oblige and ask? At the very least Government should be demanding that any IP generated from state funded R&D should remain in the public realm and shared with others as open source -- a massive polluter like Drax should not profit from it.

This week has been super exciting for the team with us signing not just one, but four MOU’s with #bioeconomy technology parnters! These MOU’s will help us to activate the 50 hectares we now have under management and will support the projects we are about to undertake at Lardner Park and Community College Gippsland ??We will be putting sunflower in over the next few months at all sites, and this will be processed using our new technology partners to start developing #renewablefuel through the form of #methanol, #renewablediesel, #renewablegas and #renewableenergy. It’s a pretty exciting time for us and we are even contemplating a seed raise to help push things along. Regarding the video, it’s our first project that we are “project developers”… it’s Green Lab Futures all the way! Kick-off for our new research project GreenForce! GreenForce is an acronym for "Green energy (potential) of forests in Central Europe". In this FFG funded project JOANNEUM RESEARCH will lead a consortium that works on solutions and tools to estimate and map forest #biomass available for #bioenergy. The research specifically addresses one of the new products in the proposed "EU Regulation on a Forest Monitoring Framework for resilient European forests". Our remote sensing team at JOANNEUM RESEARCH DIGITAL will develop innovative tools that combine a #Sentinel2 based forest monitoring with accurate above-ground biomass estimates from Austrian airborne LiDAR data. A modelling component will focus on calculating forest parameters and estimating biomass from wood residues by tree species and along different processing steps (harvesting, saw mill). The project goal is to gain a better understanding of regionally available wood residues that can be used in a sustainable manner for bioenergy production while still preserving the forest's role as an important carbon sink. Together with our Austrian project partners beetle fortech, EODC and the Landwirtschaftskammer Steiermark, and supporting research organizations in Switzerland and Germany (Eidg. Forschungsanstalt WSL; Thünen Institute), we are excited to start the developments on these new tools to calculate and map forest biomass for bioenergy. More to come over the next months...
