**Falls in Construction: The Importance of Fixed Scaffolding Safety** Falls remain one of the leading causes of injuries and fatalities in the construction industry, and one area that demands particular attention is fixed scaffolding. Fixed scaffolding provides essential support and access for workers on a construction site, but if not properly erected and maintained, it can become a significant hazard. **Key Safety Considerations:** 1. **Proper Erection:** Scaffolding must be erected by trained professionals following all safety standards. This includes ensuring a solid foundation, using the correct components, and securing the scaffolding to the structure to prevent tipping or collapse. 2. **Regular Inspections:** Before each shift, scaffolding should be inspected for any signs of wear, damage, or instability. Any issues must be addressed immediately to prevent potential accidents. 3. **Guardrails and Fall Protection:** Guardrails, midrails, and toe boards are essential on all scaffolding platforms to prevent falls. In addition, workers should use personal fall arrest systems when working at heights, especially if the scaffolding setup does not include adequate fall protection. 4. **Load Capacity:** Overloading scaffolding is a common mistake that can lead to collapse. Always ensure that the scaffolding is not carrying more weight than it is designed to handle, including the weight of workers, tools, and materials. 5. **Training and Awareness:** Workers must be trained in scaffold safety, including how to safely use, maintain, and inspect scaffolding. Awareness of the risks and proper safety practices can significantly reduce the likelihood of falls. **Conclusion:** Falls from scaffolding are preventable, but it requires diligence, proper training, and adherence to safety standards. By prioritizing safety in every aspect of scaffolding use, we can protect workers and ensure a safer construction environment. Remember, the best project is a safe one. #safety #construction #Civil #Engineer #osha #falls #incident

The only way to make sure your scaffold is safe from tampering and workers removing components is to secure your scaffolds with anti tampering devices such as scaffSAFE International contact Michael Padovan. Prevent Injury, Prevent death because we all know that Prevention is way better than cure. When tragedy strikes its too late. #scaffoldsafety #touchedbychristopher #letstalkaboutsafety #antitamperingdevice
Our inspectors will be out and about throughout the rest of 2024 targeting scaffold safety. Employers must ensure scaffolds are in a safe working condition for the duration of the construction build. Inspectors can issue on-the-spot fines for not managing scaffold risks, falls from heights risks and alterations by unlicenced workers. Who should inspect scaffolding? According to OSHA, scaffolding should be inspected by a competent person before each work shift and after any occurrence that could affect its structural integrity, such as severe weather, impact, or alteration. A competent person is someone who has the training, knowledge, and authority to identify and correct hazards related to scaffolding. This person should also be familiar with the scaffolding specifications, load capacities, and erection and dismantling procedures. If you are not a competent person, you should not inspect scaffolding or use it until it has been inspected and approved by one.
