If you're wondering what the next Kartaverse 6 dev effort is: I am currently assessing the feasibility of diving in and helping to finish the porting process for the open-source Monado OpenXR runtime so it runs on macOS Sonoma. https://monado.dev The goal would be to make it possible for Monado to be installed using the homebrew (brew) package manager in a low fuss fashion. Then XR artists and devs could use the OpenXR API on macOS with the Vulkan (moltenVK) based graphics. The way I see this being useful to a broader audience is that I am contemplating using Monado's remote and simulator interface code as a cross-platform compatible way to support a live-link bridge from a desktop XR graphics session to Apple Vision Pro HMDs. This would be with the goal of supporting bidirectional data passing for both the wireless connected graphics framebuffer, and the 6DoF tracking of hands and head pose data. Conceptually this is similar to what NVIDIA is doing with their NVIDIA CloudXR API. Having a path to connect an OpenXR session to an AVP could strengthen the immersive ecosystem by providing a path for XR playback that is vendor neutral and cross-platform. *** The groundwork that makes an AVP connection via OpenXR workflow technically feasible is that over the last 2 years I had the opportunity to collaborate with Schneider Digital on an effort to support passive stereo 3D displays via OpenXR. It's an ongoing R&D project that is close to hitting its next milestone. It's been a super useful learning process for me, and I've had a chance to work with an amazing group of like minded stereo 3D ecosystem members. I'm very excited to see R&D projects happening such as improved stereo 3D aware mouse cursors, and Vulkan multi-buffer swapchain demos, by this core team.
