Just don't hire the engineer to become a facility manager .... The problem with promoting an engineer to a facility manager is that they might continue focusing solely on engineering tasks, which can create a gap between engineering and facility management. To succeed as a facility manager, it's essential to develop skills beyond engineering, such as leadership, financial management, strategic planning, and customer care. This transition helps bridge the gap between engineering and facility management, ensuring effective integration of both aspects for the benefit of the facility. I always advise engineers to shift from their technical roles and start thinking and acting as business or company managers within the organization.
