We always highlight businesses that celebrate neurodiverse talent and authentic equality of opportunity. This week, we’re highlighting Kiewit as our Business of the Week! ? At the CNDCC, we love to get the message of neuro-inclusivity from the leading businesses. We asked Kiewit a couple of questions. ? What strengths do you see when hiring diverse talent? We have seen that bringing neurodiverse staff into Kiewit has brought a new perspective to our work. It has enhanced our problem-solving capabilities and added to our culture of innovation. It has resulted in unique approaches and new ways of thinking that led to creative solutions that may have yet to be apparent within a more homogeneous team. Ultimately, the strengths of hiring diverse talent, particularly neurodiverse individuals, extend far beyond the surface, creating a dynamic and inclusive workplace that benefits our team and the organization. What advice would you give to other programs embracing neurodiverse talent? Our advice to anyone looking to start a neurodiversity program would be to conduct training programs to increase awareness and understanding among employees and managers. It’s important to establish a supportive workplace environment for neurodiverse staff. We would also recommend that companies consider using an alternative hiring program to screen and interview neurodiverse employees, tailoring job roles to unique individual strengths, having an understanding of common accommodations and support, and establishing a mentorship/peer support program. All of these can help neurodiverse employees thrive in your organization. Is there any misconception about diversity you think others should know??The biggest misconception about diversity lies in the belief that its primary impact is on individuals alone. In reality, diversifying your organization extends far beyond individual benefits; it is a strategic imperative that strengthens the entire fabric of the organization. By embracing diversity, organizations gain access to a wealth of varied perspectives, experiences, and talents, fostering innovation and creativity.
