Exiting news, we are starting Norway Community of Users Civil Security for Society (NoCoU, 2025-2028, Project financed by The Research Council of Norway). This initiative is inspired by Philippe Quevauviller and the CERIS- Community for European Research and Innovation for Security, we are creating a vibrant and dynamic Norwegian user network (NoCoU) for societal security, safety and resilience. This cross-disciplinary arena for collaboration will bring practitioners, industry and academia to share knowledge, promote Norwegian solutions at the European level and adapt European results to national needs. The network will promote knowledge through innovative approaches, experiences with the preparation of project proposals and ongoing projects. NoCoU will leverage from existing networks and expertise. The consortium brings together academic organizations across Norway will be supported by regional teams and an advisory board that collaborates in project activities. Our ambition is to establish an open and growing community during the project. Please share the news and join this initiative. Together with Dr Aljosha Karim Schapals, I’m contributing to European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA)'s European Communication Conference 2024 in Ljubljana with our submission?"Media Systems Beyond Journalism: Placing Peripheral Newsmaking on the Map." We address a critical gap in our understanding of media systems: the?growing significance of peripheral newsmaking. Novel forms of news production, especially those outside of established journalism, are profoundly reshaping the relationship between?media and politics. Yet, current media system frameworks often overlook these evolving dynamics. We examine how these emerging practices influence: ?? Shifts in professional norms?and journalistic autonomy. ?? Increased pluralism?and partisanship in media voices. ?? Changing structure of media markets?in response to the decline of traditional institutions. #Arctic matters have been dear to my heart for a while now. This is why I did not miss the opportunity?I had earlier this week to attend an event hosted by Arctic PASSION. Several digital tools/services dedicated to life in the Arctic region were presented, covering various key topics in the Far North such as air quality, shipping, wildfires and lake ice. I was particularly interested in the latter. As I spend most of my free time dogsledding on the iced lake Inari, having precise information about the thickness of the ice, especially with the shifts in temperature from one winter to the other, can be a real improvement in daily life. That being said, I feel an important question still remains open: ? how to bring together researchers, developers who create those digital services with local communities, end-users? After all, a tool can only be useful if it is actually used by the very people it has been created for... While it is everyone’s duty to spread the word, quite some work still needs to be done on that part: engaging #communications and proximity #education might be a way.? Something I still struggle to: when to go to scientific conferences, and why? - I love the buzz of conferences, meeting colleagues and creating new acquaintances. - I love travel, being in other places (Finland is quite dreary at times) - but I often feel the scientific merit of conferences is quite minimal. Sometimes you have some good discussions after a presentation, but that's it. I don't feel it does much in terms of "presenting your research". - in addition, conferences produce ridiculous amounts of emissions because so many people fly to these places. What are your considerations of going or not going? #conference #academiclife #dissemination

Very excited to share our freshly published (open acces) article on mapping spatial differentiation of 'Greenness Visibility' in Flanders. (https://lnkd.in/ecgUt7qK) Many thanks to all the co-authors for the great cooperation and wonderful result. To our knowledge this is the first time the Greenness Visibility Index (VGVI) is implemented for such a large region. Our findings reveal evidence of distributive environmental injustice: In Flanders, residents of more deprived neighbourhoods are exposed to significantly lower levels of visible greenery. The research also suggest that VGVI analysis is particularly valuable at smaller geographic scales, making it especially relevant for research or spatial policies that address disparities in individual living conditions or target specific locations, such as schools, nurseries, hospitals, retirement homes, and community centres. The study is a small preview of my doctoral research at UAntwerpen - Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development - IMDO, where several other variables concerning green space in Flanders are being examined. At the same time the results are also part of my 'regular' work as a researcher at Departement Omgeving - very grateful for the opportunities and trust to combine both. More results in future years!
