Yesterday, Space Development Agency and Missile Defense Agency confirmed the successful launch of six satellites in low-Earth orbit at 5:30 p.m. ET from the Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space. The satellites, which include two satellites for MDA’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) and the final four SDA Tranche 0 (T0) Tracking Layer satellites of its Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (#PWSA), were safely delivered to their prescribed orbits. SpaceX is targeting Thursday, April 11, for Falcon 9’s launch of the USSF-62 mission to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The approximate 10-minute launch window opens at 7:25 a.m. PDT, 14:25 UTC, and 16:25 CEST. If needed, a backup opportunity with the same launch window is available on Friday, April 12. This will be the third launch of the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched two Starlink missions. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on Landing Zone 4 (LZ-4) at Vandenberg Space Force Base. About the USSF-62 mission: WSF-M (Weather System Follow-on-Microwave) is the next-generation operational environmental satellite system for the Department of Defense (DoD) of the United States. It will replace the microwave wavelength weather forecasting capabilities of the DMSP Satellites. Ball Aerospace was selected in late November 2017 as the prime contractor for 2 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) weather satellites with a passive microwave imaging radiometer instrument. It hosted a government-renewable charged particle (ECP) sensor space weather payload developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory. The radiometer leverages the Ball-built Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Microwave Imager (GMI) instrument. The mission will improve weather forecasting over maritime regions by taking global measurements of the atmosphere and ocean surface. After stage separation, the booster of the Falcon 9 rocket will make a flip-maneuver and start a boost-back burn, which will have a duration of about 20 seconds. The booster will then make a landing attempt at LZ-4 (Landing Zone 4) at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. So, people around the area should expect a sonic boom short before the landing. Flight direction is to the south of Vandenberg, along the coast of California, and weather permitting, it should be very good visible for a long time. So according to the space-track.org, we have approximately 10000 active payloads and 16000 Analyst Objects in space at this moment. And out of that SpaceX has almost 6000 active #satellites. SpaceX launches U.S. military spaceplane on Falcon Heavy rocket A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on Dec. 28 launched the U.S. Space Force X-37B spaceplane to orbit for its seventh mission. The triple-booster Falcon Heavy lifted off at 8:07 pm Eastern from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission, designated USSF-52, was SpaceX’s 97th launch this year, and the Falcon Heavy’s ninth flight overall. USSF-52 was originally scheduled to lift off Dec. 10 but was delayed due to weather. The launch was again scrubbed Dec. 11 for unspecified technical issues. The Falcon Heavy was returned to the hangar Dec. 14. After some review of current spacecraft and the International Space Station and a lot of math... My conclusion is that several Northrop Grumman's Cygnus Spacecraft loaded with only fuel, and no cargo, could boost the ISS to a much higher "Parking Orbit" where it could continued to be used for its primary functions and also be used to construct larger spaceships. Other roles could also be added such as the ISS being used for emergency supplies and fuel storage for Moon and Mars mission spacecraft. It is a much better option than spending 1 Billion plus to plunge the ISS into the Pacific Ocean. Asking America and the World: Would it be better to save the ISS or dump it into the Ocean? This is probably the next frontier in human space endeavors - threat response from armed satellites and from surface to space missiles. Seems like step 1 of 2000 towards a Star Wars type retaliation around a planet. We will have to wait and see if this will sustain or pan out. Not sure how much risk is involved in insuring commercial satellites if such threat response becomes frequent in the future. #space #satellites #starwars #insurance
