Unfortunately, runaways and homeless youth are even more prone to human trafficking due to vulnerability, lack of support, and lack of resources. The Family and Youth Services Bureau emphasizes the importance of specifically tailored runaway and homeless youth programs to prevent them from being trafficked. They also highlight the necessity to address their specific risks and needs, increase community educational prevention efforts, and focus on the root causes and conditions making them vulnerable while strengthening the ability of communities to respond promptly and effectively. #HW2024 Following?on from yesterday's theme, lets talk about whole school approaches to addressing child and adolescent #homelessness. Why? Because, #schools have the capacity to offer what homelessness takes away – they are a safe, predictable routine-oriented environment that fosters social connections, with access to support structures. Importantly, whole school approaches span the spectrum of responses that range from promotion, #prevention, and acute responses, to ongoing support. In this paper,?our CAH team Monika Raniti, Susan Sawyer and I talk about Health Promoting Schools as a response to homelessness. https://lnkd.in/gUehj_7X

Youth homelessness is a pressing issue that often goes unnoticed. Every night, thousands of young people find themselves without a safe place to sleep, facing uncertainty and vulnerability. These are not just statistics; they are individuals with dreams, hopes, and stories waiting to be told. Imagine being a teenager, struggling to find stability in a world that feels overwhelming. Many young people become homeless due to circumstances beyond their control, such as family conflict, abuse, or economic hardship. They face unique challenges that can lead to isolation, mental health struggles, and a lack of access to education and employment opportunities. It’s crucial for us to raise awareness and advocate for change. We can support local shelters, mentorship programs, and initiatives that provide resources and safe spaces for these young individuals. By fostering empathy and understanding, we can help break the cycle of homelessness and empower youth to build brighter futures. Together, let’s shine a light on youth homelessness. Let’s listen, learn, and take action. Every young person deserves a chance to thrive, not just survive. Your voice can make a difference—stand up, speak out, and help create a world where all youth have a place to call home.
November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge children and families experiencing homelessness. Being homeless, no matter how long it lasts, is a life-altering traumatic event that creates major stress in any person’s life, regardless of age.

Breaking the Silence on Domestic Violence Resources For many women facing domestic violence, leaving is only the first step in a long, uphill battle to safety and independence. While awareness of domestic violence has grown, the resources available to help survivors flee and rebuild their lives remain alarmingly inadequate. From limited shelter capacity to insufficient access to affordable housing, childcare, and legal aid, survivors often find themselves trapped by systemic barriers. Without these essential supports, many are forced to choose between enduring abuse or facing homelessness and poverty. This isn’t just a women’s issue—it’s a community issue. Every survivor deserves a pathway to safety and stability. We need to do more to ensure resources are accessible, sufficient, and designed to help survivors not only escape but thrive. How can we work together to bridge these gaps and empower survivors? I’d love to hear your thoughts or stories of impactful programs. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #WomenEmpowerment #CommunityAction

#Homelessness is a systemic issue. It’s also a preventable one. Over 14 months, Chapin Hall collaborated with partners and young experts from across the homelessness space to transform their knowledge and experiences into a national #Prevention strategy. We conducted in-depth interviews to understand youth’s pathways through homelessness, hosted working groups to identify solutions, and did a systematic review of prevention evidence. Now, we have a national strategy to share that can help us build a future where every young person has the foundation for success: https://lnkd.in/g8hvxqJE

?? Comment on this post if you've ever known someone struggling with #MentalHealth or fentanyl crises. ?? Just like this article reports, young people are telling us that "overlapping mental-health and fentanyl crises are contributing factors" to #Homelessness right here in our community. ??That's a big part of why we recently hired a Substance Use Navigator and are training youth as #PeerEducators. As a community, we must listen when youth tell us where they need more support. ?? We are grateful for new funding for prevention, education, and support, so our community can see more young people stably housed, getting the resources they need, and reaching their full potential.
