It can be disheartening in your senior nurse or AHP role to know that you chuck everything you have, and more, into your job. Yet still you have to put up with the challenges of a particular colleague’s behaviour. You know this stands in your way of feeling valued, or appreciated for your skills and experience. It can feel like the efforts you make to deliver good patient care, go unnoticed. I understand, patient care takes precedence over everything else, but at what cost? - You start worrying about past conversations into the wee hours? - You start anticipating a defensive outburst from someone when you are brave enough to challenge them? - You expect repercussions of some sort? When do you start asking yourself what’s it all for and begin looking at alternative jobs? You’ve honed your expert skills over many years, and I feel very strongly that you should be able to continue what you love doing without having to consider bailing out. Assuming the grass is greener on the other side. - What if you learnt to manage those challenges, how would that look? - What difference could an enhanced self-awareness make? - How would that change the way you showed up for work each day? Not sure? If this sounds like something you would like some help with, then drop me a message and let’s talk. #seniornurse #AHP #coaching

This is a very humbling post… it’s been a day, so my apologies in advance. Being a nurse leader sucks. Year after year, making friends and family.. recruiting amazing people to help take care of not only our patients, but each other. It is my mission as a leader to have a cohesive team who leans on each other for support and be self sufficient. I will tell you, I legit have the BEST team in the world due to the culture built… not by me.. but by THEM. I lead the way… THEY do the work and make me proud! In times after the holidays, and when the birds come from the east to reside.. being a leader sucks. It sucks not having enough patience to handle the amount of sickness and crazy coming into the doors every single day. It sucks having to open alternative sites and not being able to take care of people on our own units. It sucks having nurses come to work sick because they don’t want to short their teams.. and then to have to send them home anyway because it’s what has to happen. They HAVE to take care of themselves too! My career as a nurse, as a leader, as a friend, and as a mamma to many of my staff, is one of the hardest things and most rewarding things I have ever done in my life, and I would never change the path that has led me here! I appreciate those who have melted in my office with stress, anxiety, and worry about the future of their very sick patients. I love the passion of ALL I lead to do what’s right even when nobody is looking ??. I love the sooooo many laughs regarding snarky nurse things that only those in healthcare can speak of. My most favorite thing that sucks about being a leader, is to help people grow, and find their voice. This usually means they leave our amazing team to learn new things and keep going to be everything they want to be! Being a nurse leader sucks…. But for all the right reasons. I am where I am supposed to be… even on the days that are super hard. Those hard days mean that I get to teach and learn even more… about them! ??????#preach #leadership #makingdifferences

As a senior nurse or AHP your clinical roles take up a whole load of time, both on and off duty. Whether its late finishes, studying, or keeping up to date with the latest guidelines or practice. Then there’s the time you spend dissecting the shift when you’ve left….. - That conversation with Mr X that didn't go the way you would have liked. - That team member you disagreed with but your comments came out wrong. - Or the time you maintained professional silence when you should have said something. Dealing with professional relationship challenges at work can be draining, even during your off-duty period. You have to go back to work at some point and the problem is still there. What would you change if you knew how? What new skill could you learn to be able to manage your personal challenges at work? There’s not a lot of point in saying: “It’s not me, it’s them with the problem”, when it’s you that’s being affected. - Don’t let those challenges dictate your down time! If this resonates with you, drop me a message and let’s work out how I can support you. #seniornurse #alliedhealthprofessional #support #coaching

Why nurses shouldn't always follow the rules …On their days off. This is for the nurse who gets tired of having to do everything perfectly. Our jobs demand that we do things a certain way. With a high level of focus and attention to detail. And for good reason. People’s lives are on the line. But too often this intense focus and productivity carries over into our time off. And I’m here to tell you- it doesn’t have to. You don’t have to follow the rules on your time off. You don’t have to schedule and structure every moment of your life. It’s your time. Reclaim it. Do what you want. Outside of work, the rules for productivity can look different. You can REST and be PRODUCTIVE. You can create a life that works uniquely for YOU. You can give yourself a break, be creative, be bold, be spiritual, be political, wear your favorite clothes, learn something new, go on adventures. Reclaim your time off. Being a nurse is just one way that you make a difference. Don’t let it be your whole identity or steal joy from your time off. Creating a life that makes your heart sing is also your job. #empowerment #lifecoach #nursecoach #nursesoflinkedin #healthcareleaders #registerednurse

January is National Mentoring Month, and we’re excited to introduce Abby, our incredible nurse mentor at Via Linda! Meet our Nurse Mentor, Abby Rallo! She is known for her fun-loving spirit, positive energy, limitless creativity and staff-engagement skills. She finds purpose in her role at Via Linda by spreading kindness, recognizing the strengths of others, and watching her competent peers gain even more confidence; together, as a team. Abby pours her heart and soul into the work she does, and she feels immense gratitude for her role as nurse mentor because she is able to ignite her imagination to create innovative, evidence-based lesson plans and training programs that help her fellow nurses grow and provide the best care possible. Abby passionately challenges the common misconception that stress and burnout are the badges-of-honor for nursing professionals, and she emphasizes that the success of a business and the fulfillment in the workplace both depend on whether the people doing the caring feel that they are cared for. As Nurse Mentor, Abby’s mission is to promote positivity, empower peers, support staff, and contribute to the reduction of work-related stress; by inviting her colleagues to find their purpose and explore how they can combine their own passions with their profession. Abby firmly believes that reaching fulfillment in work is not a luxury, but an entitlement everyone is deserving of.?So, how will you combine your passion with your profession? “A leader’s job is not to do the work for others, it’s to help others figure out how to do it themselves, to get things done, and to succeed beyond what they thought possible.” -Simon Sinek #FindYourPurpose #FindYourWhy #FulfillmentInTheWorkplace #Gratitude

One of the most powerful tools in coaching isn’t what you say—it’s the space you hold. Being present with a client, really holding that silence, can make all the difference in their journey. Here’s a few tips to bring more presence and depth into your sessions: 1) Pause and breathe – Start each session with a deep breath to ground yourself. This helps you stay calm and centered so you’re fully present for your client. 2) Hold the silence – It can feel uncomfortable at first, but trust the silence. Clients often need that quiet space to reflect and process. Let them sit with their own words; it’s where insights emerge. 3) Stay curious, not fix-it focused – Resist the urge to jump in with answers. Instead, approach each moment with genuine curiosity. Sometimes, simply saying, ‘I’m here with you as we figure this out,’ is enough to create a huge shift. 4) Listen with your whole self – Really tune in. Notice their tone, body language, and the pauses between words. This can give you insight into what they’re experiencing beyond what they’re saying. 5) Anchor in empathy – Remember that this is their journey. Holding a safe space without judgment helps your client feel supported and seen, empowering them to explore their emotions fully. Building presence and learning to hold space are skills every nurse coach can develop.? If you’re ready to dive deeper into techniques like these, head to the comments for the link to join our next cohort, or download our Nurse Coach Guidebook to learn all about nurse coaching and the impact of these skills. . . . #nursecoach #nursecoaching #boardcertifiednursecoach #nurselifecoachacademy #nurselifecoach #nursesofinstagram #nursesofig #nursestruggles #nursesunited #nursesunite #nurseburnout #nursesinspirenurses #registerednurses
