Since beginning my research in precision agriculture (PA) in 2020, I have been deeply drawn to? #SoilHealth and #EnvironmentalSustainability. Beyond applying the right amount of nutrients to the right place and at the right time using variable rate application techniques which PA basically entails, I keep asking myself: Are there additional ways of ensuring the maintenance of soil health and environmental sustainability? This question has continued to resonate with me hence I have enrolled in the Advanced Soil Health course organised by Cornell University. Thanks to Cornell University for awarding me a scholarship to follow this course. I am eager to begin this journey and apply the knowledge gained to make meaningful impact in the field. #soilhealth #sustainability #Precisionagriculture

Loekie Schreefel, a postdoctoral researcher at Wageningen University & Research?and member of Regen10’s Experts Network, has co-authored an interesting paper that looks at the role of indicators in monitoring the sustainability of agricultural systems. ? The paper, published in Science Direct, brings together knowledge from soil monitoring, sustainability science, food systems thinking, and transition studies to help measure the environmental efficiency of farming practices like regenerative agriculture ?? ? It suggests that combining different types of indicators and measurements is key for future monitoring in agricultural systems. ? Loekie has helped inform the development of Regen10’s Outcomes-Based Framework, along with fellow researchers, farmers, businesses and other food system actors. This study explores innovative strategies to combat Alternaria leaf spot in ashwagandha using environmentally sustainable methods. Throughout this endeavor, I've delved deep into the complexities of agricultural sustainability, striving to find solutions that not only address the immediate challenges faced by farmers but also contribute to the broader goal of environmental preservation. I am excited to share my most recent publication: "Sustainable agricultural technologies of the future: Determination of adoption readiness for different consumer groups" in Technological Forecasting and Social Change. Together with my co-authors Alexander Schnack, Victoria-Sophie Osburg (Montpellier Business School) and Amy Errmann (Auckland University of Technology), I explore how to achieve food security through environmentally friendly methods such as controlled environment agriculture (CEA), genetic editing (GE), and farming automation (FA), emphasizing the importance of consumer acceptance of these technologies. Using a large-scale sample of Australians and New Zealanders, we categorize them based on their demographic and lifestyle preferences into three segments that capture differences in attitudes toward new agricultural technologies: “Green Urbanites,” “Environmentally Unconcerned,” and “Skeptical Foodies.” We further suggest strategies to increase engagement of the identified segments and promote wider acceptance of sustainable agricultural practices for enhanced food security. This great project allowed me to explore and learn about a new research domain with many practical applications to safeguard the future of food security. Through this study, we're aiming to showcase the powerful synergy between #Economics and #Ecology in the agricultural sector. ?? We want to prove that Pioneering Farmers are already achieving far more than many scientists and policymakers believe possible. ???? We want to demonstrate that governments already have the infrastructure to support farmers in agroecosystem health regeneration—context-specific remuneration and positive feedback loops without additional costs. ?? We want to show that agricultural #Economics needs new methodologies, embedding economies within ecologies to advance scientific analyses. Our meeting focused on New Genome Techniques (NGTs) and their critical role in shaping a sustainable future for European agriculture. Our conversation explored the science and history of NGTs, highlighting their potential to enhance agricultural resilience and sustainability. With MEP Van Brempt and Mr. Tobback, we examined important policy considerations such as labeling and traceability, and the impact on organic farming. The dialogue bridged academic research and policy, highlighting the importance of evidence-based approaches to agricultural innovation.
