I just finished attending the SE Stormwater Association #SESWA Conference in Chattanooga TN and will be exhibiting at the U of MN Water Resources conference next week in St. Paul MN. These are moments where we are reminded of the importance of assessing and monitoring our water resources. It needn't be expensive or complicated, and something as simple as repeated bathymetric surveys with #BioBaseMaps in priority systems needs to be done more often. When we are complaining about how much Lake A or Pond B have "filled in" and then wring our hands trying to find someone or some technology to tell us how thick the sediment is that we now need to dredge out, we've kind of lost the battle. Let's take the Central Arizona Project's lead and commit to a repeated mapping program https://lnkd.in/gW7NDc9B. Simply subtracting water volume from the BioBase survey at Time B from water volume at Time A to get sediment volume is a heck of a lot easier than sinking probes into the muck and measure the muck thickness or deploying some spendy sub-bottom acoustic profiler to try to map it after the fact. USDA is seeking input on voluntary carbon market opportunities in agriculture and forestry. Today, USDA published a Request for Information that asks about protocols used to generate carbon credits from agriculture and forestry projects and how USDA could evaluate those protocols. The RFI also asks about qualifications for technicals assistance providers and third-party verifiers.
