Story.
(Not a true story, but based on the kind of stories I get to hear weekly.)
Michael discovered a new style of artisanal plates during a business trip abroad, he knew he had found something special. It was perfect for the upscale home décor market back home.
Eager to introduce them to his customers, Michael arranged to import a significant quantity.
To maximize his investment, Michael decided against palletizing the plates for shipping. He'd been assured that floor-loading the container would allow him to ship more plates at a lower cost.
"It's just cheaper," he reasoned, picturing the neatly stacked boxes forming a solid base across the container's floor.
However, cheap doesn't always translate to efficiency...
When the shipment arrived, Michael directed his warehouse team to the docks, with anticipation and a business-like focus.
The warehouse team found themselves manually hefting boxes.
It took way too long and too many plates smashed in the process.
End of story.
We can make a happy ending, though:
Michael learned from his mistake and started using professional lumper services.
Everything arrived at his warehouse intact, quickly, and hassle-free.?
And still for less money than palletizing!
Have you ever had a logistical bust-up?
