An interesting article today from Jamie Barton in Green Street News: Europe today highlighting the difficulties retailers face in getting the right power connections to new sites. Through Atrato Onsite Energy we've been only too aware of grid connection issues when developing new solar pv assets. Of course, many retail uses involve heavy power consumption (supermarkets an obvious example with all that refridgeration). It's another example of the increasing value of owning existing assets in the right locations which secured their grid connection, highways consents and everything else that goes with a new development years ago.

This is massive win for Maryland distributed generation! 1. RECs Multiplier Increases: This encourages the use of small solar systems and helps Maryland meet renewable energy targets. - The bill provides extra renewable energy credits (RECs) for certified solar energy systems. - Systems with a capacity of up to 2MW get 150% credit towards meeting renewable energy goals. - Systems on rooftops, parking canopies, or brownfields get 200% credit. 2. Solar App and Permitting: - It includes provisions to simplify and speed up the process for getting permits for solar installations. - SolarApp+ has already been piloted in in Montgomery County to expedite and standardize solar installations and this bill includes storage systems as well. 3. Tax Exemptions: - The bill exempts nonresidential solar systems on rooftops or parking canopies from property taxes. - Ground-mounted gov't serving solar systems can get tax exemptions through payment agreements with counties. - The agreements specify a payment(in-lieu)per megawatt of capacity instead of property taxes reducing costs for system owners. 4. System Size Net Metering Waiver: - The bill reduces aggregate net metering barriers allowing facilities to combine multiple generating systems. -Max Total capacity of the combined systems capped at 5 MW. - This waiver promotes larger-scale renewable projects and lets customers benefit from multiple systems. This will greatly support the growth of renewable energy industry in Maryland.
