NIEHS-funded research, co-authored by #SOTMembers, reveals a potential link between PFAS and various cancers affecting the human digestive, respiratory, and endocrine systems. Key findings: - “The key takeaway is that PFAS contamination in everyday water sources is a risk factor for long-term health consequences, including cancers,” states #SOTPostdocMember Shiwen Li. - Researchers found associations between PFAS exposure and increased cancer rates in the oral, pharynx, digestive, respiratory, and endocrine systems based on US data from 2016 to 2021. - The findings linked PFAS exposure to urinary, brain, leukemia, and soft tissue cancers in males and to endocrine, oral, pharynx, and soft tissue cancers in females. #SOTMember co-authors of this study: #SOTPostdocMember Shiwen Li of University of Southern California #SOTFullInternationalMember Lu Zhang of Joinn Laboratories (Suzhou) #SOTAssociateMember Max Aung, PhD, MPH of University of Southern California Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eNnEqqMa
