?? Elections and the Tech Job Market: What You Need to Know! ?? Hey everyone! As we gear up for the upcoming elections, I wanted to chat a bit about how these political shifts can ripple through the tech industry and impact our job market. ??? 1. Policy Matters: Depending on who takes office, we could see major shifts in technology regulations and funding. Think about it—initiatives promoting cybersecurity, data privacy, or even AI development can open up tons of new job opportunities. On the flip side, tighter regulations could slow down innovation in some areas. 2. Confidence is Key: Elections can create a bit of uncertainty, and we know that uncertainty can make investors and companies a little jittery. A stable election outcome might encourage businesses to invest more in tech projects, leading to more hiring. Let’s hope for a positive result that boosts confidence across the board! 3. Investing in Innovation: New policies can lead to increased funding for tech startups or R&D in existing companies. This could mean exciting new roles in everything from app development to data science! Keep your eyes peeled for shifts that could spark growth in emerging tech areas. 4. Talent in Motion: Sometimes, talent relocates based on political climates. A region that feels like a tech-friendly hub post-election might attract new talent, while areas that make less favorable decisions could see some folks heading for greener pastures. 5. The Bigger Picture: Remember, the effects of an election extend far beyond the day itself. The long-term political landscape can shape the way we work, the skills we need, and the types of innovations we see in the tech world. So, let’s stay engaged, keep the conversation going, and be ready to adapt to whatever changes come our way! ???? What are your thoughts on how the elections might impact our industry? #TechJobs #Elections2024 #Innovation #CareerGrowth #TechCommunity

?? Straight Talk: I've Been Experiencing Election Fatigue After months of endless political ads, heated debates, and a social media feed that looks more like a political battleground than a professional network, I'll admit - I'm exhausted. And I know many of you are too. As a leader in both the tech staffing world and high-skilled immigration space, I've got some thoughts. Let's get real for a moment! While the political machinery winds down, the tech industry isn't hitting pause. We've got: 1) AI transformations happening at lightning speed 2) Critical talent gaps that need filling 3) Innovation timelines that wait for no election cycle Here's what our Tier4 Group team is laser-focused on right now: ?? Accelerating tech talent placement in high-growth sectors ??Supporting our community through every transition ??Building stronger partnerships that transcend political seasons ?? Leadership Lesson: Market opportunities don't follow election calendars. The companies winning right now are those keeping their eyes on execution, not election coverage. To my network across tech, staffing, and immigration: It's time to level up. ??While others are doom-scrolling, let's focus on: ?? Upskilling our teams ??Strengthening our delivery systems ??Creating real value for our clients and candidates The talent market waits for no one - and neither should we. Co-founder & CEO at Gemography | Publisher of Exec Engineering, a weekly digest on Engineering + Talent
Thoughts on the US election results ??? The US election has sparked discussions about the future of global talent flows. While headlines focus on potential immigration restrictions, the tech industry has already found a solution: great talent doesn't need to relocate to create value. Tech companies will always need great talent. The way we work today, with teams spread across the world, wasn’t built by policy, but by necessity. Technology itself has no borders, and neither does talent. —- I originally wrote this as the intro to this week's Exec Engineering newsletter. Tennessee, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Washington, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and New York. What do these 9 states have in common? . . . . . . . . . In order of magnitude, they all grew their infotech sectors by a higher percentage than California since 2019. This has led to California's share of all US tech jobs dropping from a high of 19% to a more modest 16%. This trend continues today. We can no longer make believe this is a temporary COVID-related anomaly. Which emerging tech hubs are you most excited about? Why? #California #SiliconValley #Tech #TechIndustry #Jobs

Minnesota’s tech industry is projected to need 39,000 new tech professionals over the next five years, yet the talent shortage is more critical than ever with tech unemployment at just 1.7%. For founders, this talent gap means rising labor costs and competition for skilled professionals. This costs money...companies can offset these rising expenses still while driving innovation via R&D Tax Credits ya know ;). If you still haven't found out if you qualify, it’s time to explore for free before year-end. Link in comments. #TechTalent #Innovation #R&DTaxCredits #MinnesotaTech #WorkforceDevelopment

So far in 2024, more than 10,000 tech jobs have been cut. (yes you are reading it right 10K in less than a month) Living in Palestine amid the ongoing crisis & working with Digital Action on the #YearOfDemocracy campaign makes it hard for me not to reflect on the impact of these layoffs on people and democratic rights. This never-ending wave of layoffs is alarming for our safety, as companies appear solely focused on increasing their profit and ignore our safety and well-being. This is especially concerning coming after 2023, which was a punishing year for tech workers, with tech companies eliminating 260k jobs. Globally speaking, as we enter a year with over 65 global elections, our team Digital Action alongside 200 organizations and experts from around the world have been urging (since July 2023) tech platforms to increase investment to protect people & democratic rights worldwide. Unfortunately, civil society recommendations seem to be ignored. In Palestine, where I live, since the beginning of the ongoing crisis, we have emphasized the lack of platform investment and strict measures to protect people from disinformation, hate speech, incitement, and violent rhetoric. The result of this is clear and manifest in the violence, normalization of anti-Palestinian racism, and deadly attacks against our people. The attacks against Palestinians extend far beyond Palestine; there have been many cases of killing, shooting, and attacking Palestinians in the US and other countries due to the lack of safeguarding on these platforms. Meta's Zuckerberg called 2023 "the Year of Efficiency," and the cost-trimming spree is still unfolding. I'm writing this and only thinking of people in global majority countries who have been struggling with biased content moderation policies, biased algorithms, as well as every woman around the world who has been doxxed or harassed online or even withdrew her elections candidacy as a result of GBVO, thinking of every journalist and activist who has faced different violations on those platforms, just because of the lack of investment, thinking of my own people who have been stereotyped and labeled due to the same reasons. I'm concluding this post by thinking of every tech worker who has been laid off because of these policies, and extending the call to those principled workers inside the companies. It is never too late to speak up and collaborate with advocates to pressure your companies to invest more human and financial resources to safeguard the platforms and protect our people and rights globally. https://lnkd.in/de3pNcbk
