Here is my take on the question: How would I build my ideal agency? ? Here are my immediate hires: - Editor: Short Video Specialist - Producer: Content & Trend Curator? - Analyst: Visual Storyteller, Data Guru - Client Relations Manager: Client Community Engager - Campaign Manager: Influencer, Creator Work? - PR Manager: Communications, Pitching? - Director: Strategy, Operations, Partnerships ?? We don't have a creative HR company. Times will change, but in the meantime we all need to adapt. Social media managers are in a unique spot with most companies they work with. Focus on the experience you are getting and do your best to create a lifestyle that curates a "24/7 always on" mentality. Experiences to focus on ?? 1. Your point of contact is either a director of ops or the CEO of the company —?that's incredible positioning in any company. You will learn so much from both of those people. 2. You are managing someone else's team (you also have to manager your own team and systems) so you are getting really good at communicating subjects, projects, or tasks to people who most likely do not understand your jargon and you are not their manager — cross department knowledge and authority is how you get stuff done! Getting good at this is incredible power to have for future roles. 3. You are working with, but also a huge part of: - the sales team - planning and managing events or activations - you help with hiring - you market the launch of new product releases - you are defining culture - and you are probably asked to problem solve on different digital platforms because you are the "tech" person in most conversations you have. This is just a fraction of the experience you are getting as social media manager. Do you what you need to do in your personal life to make this work, you have an incredible future ahead of yourself! My friends, the turnover for social media managers and social creatives within companies is so high that there should be a creative HR company specifically for managing burnout of these individuals. There are companies hiring a “social media manager” in their job description who in reality balances being a strategist, copywriter, producer, director, actor, spokesperson, editor, community manager, data analyst, customer service, and trend spotter. I’m not sure how it could be feasible to have great output for long periods of time with that all riding on one person. In the future (or with some of the best companies now) these roles are looked at strategically where you are realistic about which jobs can be bunched together and which need to be separate hires. ???? #socialmedia

This is one of the main reasons why I created my Social Media Manager Program. When companies hire a “Social Media Manager” they’re usually not using the right title. “Online Marketing Manager” or “Online Marketing Director”would be more appropriate. An excellent, full-service Social Media Manager does bring a lot to the table. But the focus is always social media. Google is not social media. Websites are not social media. E-mail marketing is not social media. Our Social Media Managers specialize *specifically* in social media, and we charge accordingly. Nope, it’s not “cheap.” But it’s also not near as much as it costs a company to put someone full time on payroll. We’re hiring Social Media Managers in Texas right now. Its commission pay. It’s flexible. It’s fulfilling. It’s fun. And you won’t be expected to manage Google Business Accounts and websites.?? Thanks for sharing this JT Barnett. #socialmediamanager

You’re hiring a social media manager. Not a strategist. You’re hiring a social media manager. not a director, content creator, graphic designer, community manager, social media data analyst. Times are changing. Social media managers are changing to specialists. Investing and hiring in social media means understanding you can’t expect 1 person to handle 10 roles. Because you’ll find that “1” will turn to “0” due to burnout. Dont get me wrong, using social media to scale is a great idea. But you can’t scale with just 1 person. Sooo, are you realllly ready to invest? ??

I love when others in my network reach out and here's something I've been asked about multiple times in the past two weeks... **Can we participate in an analyst’s comparative vendor report (such as an MQ or a Wave or a MarketScape, etc.) if we don’t subscribe to the analyst firm? --Yes **How do we get invited to participate? --If you're on the analyst's radar and you meet the inclusion criteria... While there are plenty of orgs lacking an AR department or a full-time AR person or even a part-time AR person, basic engagement (to get on analyst radars) doesn't take a ton of effort. That said, it's always better to strive for more than 'basic' when it comes to engagement. And keep reaching out with questions about anything comms-related, be it networking, PR, AR, internal, crisis, etc. #PR #publicrelations #AR #analystrelations #engagement
