Had a great walk today, reflecting with a colleague on careers spent in the corporate permie world. Now, we're in a position to bring all that experience together and make an impact in a different way. If you’d been within earshot, listening to us discuss the shifts in practices, approaches, and the way the corporate world has evolved, you’d probably be nodding along—or even maybe, like us even feeling inspired… We reminisced about the many initiatives that helped us drive team purpose and accountability, saved costs in downturns and improved ways of working for growth as the markets turned. Do these hands-on, collaborative initiatives that addressed core aspects of the business propositions deserve a comeback. If Oasis can have a reunion tour should we be dusting off the impactful practices and remastering them, ultimately enabling everyone to address cost saving and growth agendas in 2025? People at WebCastle: Week 3 This week, we're shining the spotlight on the heart of our company - Drisya Vijay , our fantastic HR! If WebCastle feels like a second home, Drishya plays a big part in making it so. She's been with us for years, always working to improve our workplace. Drishya's got a knack for blending employee happiness with company goals. Thanks to her efforts and management's thoughtful initiatives, we now enjoy Saturdays off, giving us that extra day to recharge. Her initiative was the Employee of the Month program (which I've been fortunate to win a few times) and those fun project success team lunches that bring us all together. What I really appreciate about Drishya is how she listens. She's always open to suggestions, whether it's about improving our work environment or tweaking our processes. It's this openness that's helped shape many positive changes at WebCastle. And hey, I can't forget to mention - I owe my WebCastle journey to her good judgment during my hiring process! ?? The WebCastle management deserves a big thumbs up too. Their support for Drishya's insights has been crucial in implementing these initiatives. We can't change our workplaces if we don't change our societies first. We live in individualistic societies where we're all focused on our own success, our own pleasure and interests. It's no surprise that we see the same patterns at work. I don't know about you, but as I grew older I started to crave more and more a sense of community. I love when people come together, sharing their stories, ideas and support each other in the moments of need. A community gives you a sense of belonging, of being part of something bigger than your own ego. Our workplace is basically a mini-version of how we live and interact in the real world. It's where all our human stuff comes out - the politics, the friendships, the conflicts, and the connections - and we end up showing that through the work we do. When a company becomes too focused on individual success, people start building walls and protecting their own little territories instead of working together. Everyone starts looking out for themselves, which means good ideas get trapped and teamwork falls apart. Before you know it, people get exhausted, stop caring, and start thinking about moving on. When we only care about getting ahead personally, we miss out on building something amazing together. Sure, personal wins feel good in the moment, but they can actually hold everyone back from doing something really meaningful. Working as a team means moving in the same direction, not just looking out for ourselves. I think we should seeing our workplaces as communities, where people stop competing and start connecting through common values, are recognised for their humanity, and actively participate in shaping decisions that impact them. After all, no one builds great things alone.
