?? At SMAY, Innovation Meets Tradition in Design!??? ?? At #SMAY, our design concepts are grounded not just in European Standards and decades of technical expertise but are propelled by cutting-edge scientific research. We've dedicated years to studying real-world applications to bring you the most reliable and innovative design solutions. ?? Case Studies: 60m High Building Our extensive research on a real 60m high building has helped us refine our design strategies to enhance safety and efficiency. 90m High Building and the Stack Effect A two-year study on the stack effect in a 90m high building has deepened our understanding of environmental impacts on high-rise structures. Dr. Iza Tekielak's Groundbreaking Research The head of our R&D, Dr. Iza Tekielak, has revolutionized our approach with her PhD research on airflow resistance in various types of staircases. Thanks to Dr. Tekielak’s Izabela Tekielak Ska?ka, we have developed tools that allow us to accurately predict pressure distribution in staircases, considering dimensions, airtightness, external temperatures, and vent placements. ?? ?? Day 2 of the Challenging Glass Conference at the Delft University of Technology! ?? Today, our founder, Dr. Thomas Henriksen, presented a compelling synopsis of our paper titled "Optical Distortions in Architectural Glass: Review of Categorization, Evaluation and Measurement Methods." Dr. Henriksen's presentation shed light on the complexities of optical distortion in multi-layer architectural glass, such as insulated glass units, which typically comprise combinations of heat-treated and laminated glass. The paper provided a review of 8 types of optical distortion found in practice on projects, together with the findings from preliminary laboratory tests carried by Delft University of Technology. In conclusion, there is a need to carry out further research to better understand the causes behind the different optical phenomena and to develop new methods to objectively assess their effects on the aesthetic quality of architectural glass. We're proud to contribute to the advancement of architectural glass technology and to be part of this prestigious conference. #ArchitecturalGlass #OpticalDistortions #EngineeringInnovation #ResearchAndDevelopment #FacadeEngineering #ChallengingGlassConference #Conference Stay tuned for more updates from the conference and our ongoing projects!

If you can measure it, you can improve it. In this paper in Glass Structures & Engineering - Springer, Alessandra Luna Navarro and colleagues from ReStruct Group | TU Delft and the Architectural Facades & Products Group at Delft University of Technology show how to assess human perception of glazing deflections. The thickness of glass in facades is often governed by this serviceability limit. So measuring the perceived deflection is an essential step for reducing the thickness (and embodied carbon) of glazed facades. Initial results indicate that humans are mostly sensitive to reflections in the deformed glazing and that the current serviceability limits could potentially be relaxed. World Art Day serves as a poignant reminder of the connection between art and architecture. Beyond conventional boundaries, art permeates the very fabric of architectural expression. Visionary architects, akin to storytellers, wield space, light and shadow as their artistic tools, infusing the built environment with vitality and emotive resonance. This symbiotic relationship fuels innovation, pushing the frontiers of creativity and sparking boundless imagination. As we honor World Art Day, a contemplation on how artistic principles enrich and invigorate architectural practice emerges as indispensable for nurturing the architects of tomorrow. #worldartday
