Little Free Library in Wasco: made by the community, for the community By: Sam Hoyle Posted at 5:18 PM, Jul 24, 2024, www.turnto23.com City of Wasco, California. 23ABC (KERO-TV) — Devin Lowe, a recent Wasco High School grad, is chasing his Eagle Scout honors. As part of the process, he opted to do his service project by constructing a Little Free Library for the public to use. 23ABC caught up with Lowe in front of his newly minted Little Free Library and noted he bounced around a few ideas before choosing to construct the library. Lowe said his goal was to provide access to #literature in his community, where library hours are limited and other factors could prohibit someone from visiting the library. Margret Aldrich, Director of Communications for the LFL #Nonprofit, said the bulk of #California's nearly 8,000 #library boxes can be found in metropolitan settings, and she said the group always finds it exciting to see one pop up in a rural community. According to the Nonprofit's website, prior to Lowe constructing his, there's only one Little Free Library in Wasco. ***GRANT OPPORTUNITY*** The Youth in Philanthropy Program will provide $5,000 for six high school classrooms for students to make grants to local nonprofits in their community. Students will learn about philanthropy, grant-making best practices, and how hashtag #nonprofits are meeting critical needs in their community, and then will be the decision makers to provide grants to their local community. Most importantly, this is a way to start to build the 'civic engagement' muscle in tomorrow's leaders!

More key findings from our survey of Springboard grantees, in partnership with?AMPT: Advancing Nonprofits! Model for Support: 100% of grantees surveyed shared that Springboard Foundation Fund’s approach is among the best they have experienced in philanthropy. Cohort Model and Network Building: 100% of surveyed Springboard grantees told us that our cohort model successfully created a collaborative and supportive community among grantees. Professional Development and Capacity Building:? 100% of grantees shared that Springboard's professional development is valuable and comprehensive. Survival During Crisis: 100% of grantees shared that Springboard funding and other support offered played a significant role sustaining organizations during the COVID pandemic. Credibility With Other Funders: 92% of surveyed grantees shared that funding from Springboard made other funders more comfortable investing. #25yearsofspringboard

There is the "What is The Nonprofit Hive?" on paper. We are a "video platform that facilitates 1-1 video "Hive Chats" for social impact professionals." But that is just the "How" of connecting our community. Our "Why" and our "Who" is SO MUCH more exciting. Because these 1-1 connections are so much more than just putting 2 changemakers in to a chat for 30 minutes. This is becoming a community that supports each other in the challenges of social impact work. That cheers each other on, that collaborates, that connects person to person worldwide and creates opportunities that would not have happened organically.
