We are terribly sad to share the news that our friend and employee, Buddy Brumley, passed away on Sunday. It’s difficult to articulate the scale of this loss, not just to his family and all of us at Skiles Group, but to scores of others in our industry community. If we had to pick one word to describe him, it would be "dedicated." Buddy was a selfless servant leader who was tirelessly supportive, loyal, patient, and kind—completely dedicated to his company, profession, and people. We’re a better construction company because of him, and he is irreplaceable. We’ll share funeral details when we learn them; in the meantime, we welcome you to share your memories and stories in the comments.

It’s hard to put into words what Buddy Brumley meant to me, Skiles Group, and the construction industry. He was a remarkable leader, role model, friend, Lean champion, and one of the finest in our field. His dedication and loyalty to our firm, his colleagues, his projects, and his clients were unparalleled. They simply don’t make them like Buddy anymore. He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on in all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

I heard about Buddy's passing last night from a peer. I couldn't believe it ??. Two peers have passed in a short period of time. Two that supported me from afar. Here's how Buddy impacted my life: he always made such thoughtful comments to my posts. He supported us women in construction like we were his sisters. Lastly, about two weeks ago he sent me a message about one of my posts. It meant the world to me, because he said how much he enjoyed reading my content and he called this one post a ray of sunshine for him. Buddy gave us all a gift: kindness, support and dedication. I will be forever grateful! Buddy ???? you will be remembered as we all carry on shining ?? brightly in an industry we all are connected ??? construction! ??????

Buddy was my boss, my leader, my work dad, my mentor, and my friend. The loss of Buddy seems impossible and too overwhelming to accept. He was awesome. He cared about people, took care of them and made them feel safe while also spurring them toward success. He made you want to be better because you didn't want to let him down. Having Buddy as a mentor felt like following a giant in the sand. Each step he took left a deep lasting bootprint guiding the way forward. While you're walking that same path you realize that his bootprints are always too big to fill completely. He was always there to encourage you or give you a swift kick in the rear to make sure you kept up. As you found success and began to find your stride you'd realize Buddy wasn't surprised by your progress, he was just ready to challenge you again. Buddy's legacy is vast and the respect he earned is for good reason. I miss him tremendously. I just hope we can all make him proud.

He will be missed. It was a privilege getting to work with and more importantly get to know him over the years of working together. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

This picture doesn’t do him justice, because you can’t see the countless young men and women that were able to stand on the shoulders of this giant. Buddy you are missed, and you deserve to rest well friend.

I had met and worked with Buddy several years ago and been very fortunate to have had the chance to work with him again over the last couple of years. Buddy was an Icon in the construction industry and was an asset to the projects he worked on as well as the people he worked with. Myself and people that had the opportunity to work with him were blessed to do so. He expressed to me on more than one occasion the importance of trade partners over contract associates. The industry and those of us that knew him will sorely miss him and we are better for having worked with him.

This still doesn’t feel real. Over the last few months, I got to see Buddy on a regular basis because he was helping with the office renovation. This meant more Buddy hugs, check-ins, and conversations— I’m thankful for that. I’m glad I got the chance to tell him how much his relationship with my husband meant to me.. he was his father figure and he made such a big impact on both of our lives. He was just the best and I’m sad that he had to leave us so soon. Sending love to everyone hurting over this huge loss— he will be so missed. ??

Buddy was like a father to me. He took me under his wing like one of his own. He was the kindest of souls, a great leader, and wiser than anyone else I know. If Buddy had something to say, you had better listen, it was going to be important. For those of you that didn’t get to know him, I hope you read these messages from everyone that did. Because we are his legacy now, and we are charged with passing on what he has taught us. We all need a little Buddy Brumley in us.

I’ve known Buddy since I was a kid. He was always someone I could call and talk to when times were tough, and he was the first to reach out when we had great successes on our projects. I would call him with a complaint about my situation or problem, and our conversations would always lead to laughter, making my burdens feel lighter. Andy said it best: he was like our work Dad. There is no greater honor than that. My only regret is not being able to spend more time with Buddy. I will miss you greatly, Buddy.
