Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Drive interviewed me on how drones are changing the nature of warfare*. We talk about: ?? the history of automatic and autonomous weapons, from naval mines to commercial off the shelf drones, ??the psychological impact of remote drone operations and ?? the role of AI to change the epistemic state of the battlefield. Episode ?? https://lnkd.in/g8E9dwrD (11 July, 2:02 - 2:13, starts 52min from the end, ~10min long). * in the interview I agreed that drones are changing the nature of war, mostly to match the interviewers’ question… which I know will be contested by experts in war. Some will argue that the nature of war remains the same, that war remains politics by force, even though technology used (including robotics, autonomous systems and AI) alters the means and mode of warfare. I acknowledge this point.
