Had a hip or knee replacement and headed to the dentist? Check out new guidance from American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). The groups say there's little evidence that taking systemic antibiotics prior to dental work will reduce your risk of periprosthetic joint infection. #hipreplacement #kneereplacement #jointinfection #dentistry

I recently came across a flowchart titled "Novel Flowchart Guiding the Nonsurgical and Surgical Management of Peri-Implant Complications" that I found really intriguing. With no standardised protocol for treating peri-implant diseases, this flowchart offers some valuable insights into managing these cases effectively. It covers various decontamination methods like hard tissue lasers and air abrasion techniques, which are key in nonsurgical treatments. That said, the flowchart does highlight some gaps in our current knowledge, particularly around antimicrobial use and specific surgical guidelines. If you’re as passionate about implant dentistry as I am, I’d recommend checking it out. The QR code will take you straight to the paper synopsis for a longer read. What do you think of this flowchart? Do you find it useful, and does it align with your approach to peri-implant complications? Let me know your thoughts! #MrOralSurgery #DrSamiStagnell #DentalExcellence #DentalCommunity

?? The next and final Dentistry Live of the year coming to your screens is: Non-surgical Treatment of Peri-implant Disease with Karen Walker. Join us on 21st November at 19:00, where we will be featuring a demonstration of a non-surgical treatment of peri-implant disease. Tune in to witness one of the UK's leading dental experts, Karen Walker, provide a step-by-step guide to treating this new disease. Register free here: https://lnkd.in/ebmRzYmD With the rise of dental implant placements as a valid treatment modality for missing teeth, we are also seeing the rise of a new disease – peri-implant disease. Many clinicians feel apprehensive when it comes to treating peri-implant diseases, and currently there are limited evidence-based treatment procedures. However, with the British Society of Periodontology's implementation of the EFP S3 Guidelines in 2023, clinicians can no longer ignore the maintenance and treatment of dental implants. Since 2009, Karen has developed and implemented maintenance and treatment protocols for all patients going through their implant journey. This session will show you how these protocols are used in the non-surgical treatment of peri-implant disease. ?? Learning outcomes ? Understand how to carry out six point probing depths of the implant ? Learn how to assess bleeding/suppuration and bone loss from peri-apical x-rays ? How to diagnose of peri-implant disease and discussing patient treatment protocol ? How to discuss possible consequences/recurrence of disease with the patient ? Improve your knowledge of non- surgical debridement of implant following TCC treatment protocols ? Understand site specific OHI and post-op instructions ? Learn more about recall interval. #dentistry #dentistrylive #periimplantdisease #livesurgery
