The mission: to survey thousands of people across 11 countries on their #microbiota knowledge. ?? The purpose: to better understand how #awareness, understanding of different human microbiota types and #behaviors have evolved. In 2024, the Institute and Ipsos France have included new countries, new topics, and an international scientific board to make healthcare professionals aware of the key role they play in educating their #patients. Hanna Stolińska-Fiedorowicz, Joel DORE, Purna Kashyap and jean marc bohbot. 95% people who get information from their #HealthCareProfessional had adopted behaviors to maintain a balanced microbiota, compared to 57% among all respondents! International Microbiota Observatory is published on #WorldMicrobiomeDay. Also Finland was included this year. Surprisingly Finland lag behind in terms of knowledge of microbiotas and the adoption of behaviors to care for their body microbiota. Only one third (36%) have changed their behaviour, and very few (20 %) have been made aware of right behaviours to adopt! #Biocodex # MicrobiotaMission #BuildAwarenessOfMicrobiota

Saliva. It’s easily available and can tell us a lot.. but actually not quite enough. On a group level, changes in salivary ion content differentiates healthy people from those with Sj?gren’s Disease , but not on an individual level and not in comparison to other dry mouth groups. Joanita van Santen, PhD student with Floris Bikker and myself is trying to tackle this by measuring ions in different areas of the mouth- first paper coming soon! ??? Introducing our New Series: Interdisciplinary Projects in the Picture We are thrilled to introduce you to our new series, featuring interviews that dive into four interdisciplinary projects funded by the Institute for Preventive Health. In this series we speak to researchers and explore what they are researching and how they started up their interdisciplinary research. How do they experience working across the boundries of their own expertise? In this first edition, Annemieke Groenenboom speaks with Natal van Riel about the project "Personalised Dietary Advice". Alongside Lydia Afman (WUR) and Hanna Hauptmann (UU), Van Riel is developing precise, personalised dietary recommendations through the use of digital twins and advanced simulation models. Van Riel reflects on starting up this interdisciplinary collaboration: ''Interdisciplinary research is where you truly need to bring together, integrate, and combine different disciplines to effectively solve a problem. Collaboration and integration from the outset are essential." Want to know more? ?? If you are at #HSR2024. Have you every wondered how we study the illicit and hidden practices? How do we capture unspoken rules, informal exchanges and politically motivated actions? What approaches and techniques can we use to really know what is going on. Please join us at #HSR2024 for talks and a 'clinic', at 8-10 am, at room 108 to hear from those developing new novel methods and ways of thinking to study illicit practice in a range of settings - Mishal S Khan on covert methods to study physicians integrity in Pakistan, Pamela Ogbozor on using political science frameworks to find out the right people who know what is happening, Lawrence Sao Babawo on how do we get past bureaucratic norms and official talk to find out how the system worked during the Ebola response, Eleanor Hutchinson (by video) on how we can observe even the most damaging practices using ethnography, and Prince Agwu on building relationship as a way in complex hidden ecosystems. Our 'clinic' will then offer a chance for you to present any problems and dilemmas and get advice from everyone on how to tackle these.
