???? Exciting news! ???? The Endometriosis CARE Act was reintroduced at the U.S. Capitol, proposing a groundbreaking $250 million allocation over five years for endometriosis research. We at Endo Black Incorporated are thrilled to have been a part of yesterday’s event, standing alongside Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Kathryn Godburn Schubert from the Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR), Dr. Dan C Martin from Endometriosis Foundation of America, and Endo What Director Shannon Cohn. The reintroduction of the Endometriosis CARE Act highlights a growing recognition of the urgency to address this often overlooked condition. With increased funding and renewed commitment from policymakers, advocates, and healthcare professionals, we are positioned to make significant strides in research, awareness, and access to care for those affected by endometriosis. We're deeply appreciative of Congresswoman Nikema Williams and the Endometriosis Caucus, including Rep. Jenniffer González-Colón, Rep. Lauren Underwood, and Rep. Alma Adams, for their continued work and dedication that’s being put in for the endometriosis community. Join us in supporting this vital legislation and work towards a future where those living with and impacted by endometriosis have the care and support they deserve. Join us virtually on 8/12 for a conversation with 2 extraordinary scientists, Manessa ?? Lormejuste and Milan Scott, M.S., behind the beauty justice movement, hosted by our VP of Public Health & Research, Olivia Taylor! This panel aims to demystify the research surrounding personal care products while also helping women understand what to look for as they find what works best for their health in an evolving market. - Context: In light of recent Health-Disparities Research there have been several studies highlighting a framework called The Environmental Injustice of Beauty “linking intersectional systems of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, and classism) to racialized beauty practices, unequal chemical exposures, and adverse health outcomes. This intersectional framework has been applied to multiple categories of personal care products (PCPs), including skin lighteners, hair straighteners, and fragranced menstrual and intimate care products. Although the framework originally focused on unequal chemical burdens among Black and Latina women, recent work has extended the framework to other minoritized populations.”- The Environmental Injustice of Beauty Products: Toward Clean and Equitable Beauty American Journal of Public Health

Black women's participation in clinical trials plays a vital role in improving health outcomes in our communities, and Health In Her HUE is proud to be partnering with GCI Health to champion this! RSVP now for “Beyond Recruitment: Empowering Black Women to Participate in Clinical Trials to Drive Health Innovation” with Dr. Denise N. Bronner, Ph.D., Kianta Key of GCI Health, and?Sydney Cooper, MPH, UXC. ??? Wednesday, May 22, 2024 ? 7:00 PM EST Black women's underrepresentation in clinical trials, even those addressing health conditions that disproportionately affect Black communities, is a pressing issue. This disparity is often attributed to the perception that Black women are a "hard-to-reach" community and reluctant to participate in health research due to historical and contemporary distrust of the medical establishment. However, a recent report, "Layered: Black Women's Perceptions of Clinical Trials," provides insightful observations on Black women's beliefs, attitudes and barriers to clinical trial participation, revealing the need for a more nuanced and multidimensional approach. Join us for a community conversation that digs into how health ecosystems can build trust among Black women and marginalized communities to participate in health research and explores the findings from Layered. ?? From January 2017 to date, I have collected and compiled quantitative data concerning who provides access to grooming to populations with barriers to regular haircare. As of July 15, 2024, here is how they rank in order of who makes grooming accessible from most to least. The ranking is based on the 4,024 data points I collected daily over seven years. 1. Coalitions or Partnerships – 29% 2. Barber and beauty salon business – 25% 3. Individual grooming professionals – 14% 4. Nonprofit organizations – 13% 5. Schools (public, vocational, college/university) – 8% 6. Government Agencies (local & federal) – 4% 7. Churches – 4% 8. For-profit businesses – 2% 9. Other (social clubs, civic organizations, and associations) – 1% As the data shows, the effectiveness and impact of grooming services for populations with barriers to regular hair care are significantly enhanced through the collaborative efforts of two or more entities and/or individuals. This underscores the crucial role of collaboration in this context. Remember, collaboration doesn’t only mean, “Hey, let’s do an event together.” You can also collaborate or partner behind the scenes. Sharing, exchanging, or leveraging administrative duties, target populations, resources, and technology between entities and individuals may improve your program or organization's capacity, efficacy, and sustainability! #wahl #unitedwayofcentralmaryland #changemakerchallenge
