Today in Women's History Month, I'm highlighting Nic Cober, Esquire, founder and CEO of The BOW Collective (The Black Owner and Women's Collective). The BOW Collective is an organization of the nation's top 1% of woman-led, Black-owned small business owners. It aims to create social capital through a powerful sisterhood, bringing awareness and opportunities to Black women entrepreneurs. The Collective works to enhance the economic base of communities by training, counseling, and partnering with emerging businesses. It also focuses on scaling businesses to strengthen community economies. Nic's personal story is an amazing one of triumph over adversity and of the enduring power of her faith to help her navigate and eliminate each obstacle. Now, not everyone believes in God, but did you know that practices like prayer, akin to cognitive behavioral therapy, significantly improve mental health by focusing on positive thoughts and gratitude? Moreover, studies highlight the benefits of spirituality, including greater longevity and reduced depression. Nic's work with the BOW Collective is a vibrant example of how integrating spirituality, self-love, and community care can lead to more fulfilling, healthier and impactful lives. Let's celebrate her remarkable contribution to women leaders this Women's History Month. Sources: https://lnkd.in/gwa2dw-s https://lnkd.in/gf9wKWXn

My Project, Profiles of Black Women in the Social Impact Sector, is off to a great start! I have loved hearing about the journeys of Black Women within this space. I am still looking to connect more women, if you or anyone within your network is interested in speaking with me please fill our this invitation for conversation. https://lnkd.in/eVh5ucPP For Clarity here is how I am defining "social impact": Social impact:?Broadly refers to an ecosystem or network of professionals driven by mission and impact. Social impact is focused on doing work that is - financially, socially, and environmentally- sustainable.? A Nonprofit organization is an organization that is guided by its mission and value alignment, over profit generation)

Women need a support system! It can be mentorship, allyship and most importantly advocates! #empoweredwomen #empowerwomen

In a time where the strength of community shines brightest, I am incredibly inspired by the recent Win With Black Women conference and the power of unity it exemplified. With over 44,000 women joining the call, it was a testament to our collective resilience and the power of coming together to support one another. Seeing familiar faces like First Lady of the State of Maryland, Dawn Moore who I saw recently at the AccelerateHER, and whose husband Gov. Wes Moore is a college friend, made it all the more special and inspiring. WELL BEING and the community that it creates are more than just words; they birth networks of support, coalitions of individuals ready to mobilize for a common cause, and a reservoir of resources we can tap into. It’s about uplifting each other and creating a space where everyone feels empowered and heard. In these moments, we see the true potential of what we can achieve together. It’s not about politics; it’s about people. It’s about the shared belief that women united and leaning into our wellness and wholeness are unstoppable. #WinWithBlackWomen

The Intersection of Trust, Vulnerability, and Equity: A Critical Look at Black Women in Organizations Institutions and organizations often tout the importance of trust and vulnerability in fostering healthy environments. However, it's crucial to recognize the nuanced experiences of marginalized groups within these spaces, particularly Black women. For Black women, navigating trust and vulnerability can be fraught with unique challenges. The intersectionality of race and gender magnifies the risks associated with speaking up, seeking support, or expressing vulnerability. In many cases, Black women face heightened scrutiny and skepticism, making it difficult to build trust or express vulnerability without fear of backlash or discrimination. This dynamic can have detrimental effects on their well-being, career advancement, and overall sense of belonging within the organization. To truly cultivate environments of trust and vulnerability, organizations must prioritize equity and inclusion. This means actively addressing systemic biases, providing support networks tailored to the needs of Black women, and amplifying their voices in decision-making processes. Ignoring the specific challenges faced by Black women not only undermines the integrity of organizational values but also perpetuates harmful patterns of exclusion and inequality. It's time for institutions to recognize the vital role of trust and vulnerability in fostering inclusive cultures and to actively dismantle barriers that disproportionately impact Black women. Join us for the event "Listen to Black Women" where we will delve deeper into these issues and explore actionable steps towards creating more equitable and inclusive workplaces and communities. Together, let's amplify the voices of Black women and work towards building truly inclusive environments. Get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ezDqCv9V #Trust #Vulnerability #Equity #Inclusion #BlackWomenInLeadership #ListenToBlackWomen
