Like the lines of a scallop shell, we all take different paths to the same destination.
The Pilgrims of Pearse has set forth on our journey from the Pearse Lyons Distillery at St. James Church in the Liberties, Dublin. It is a momentous occasion to start this journey here at the distillery, which holds profound familial and cultural connections.
The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is a historic network of pilgrimage routes leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
Constructed around 1190 AD, St James in Dublin church historically marked the starting point for numerous pilgrims embarking on their personal journeys to Spain. While our group skipped the sea crossing from mainland Europe to Spain (as seen in this amazing film, The Camino Voyage: https://bit.ly/3UZ69zr) favoring an easier air route, our ultimate destination remains unchanged. Just like pilgrims have for over 800 years, our minds are trained on Santiago and our feet will carry us the rest of the way.
To add an extra layer of significance to our journey, we’ve crafted custom lapel pins in the shape of a shell, which I am carrying with me and offering to supporters of our adventure. In tribute to my father’s legacy of making a difference, we're launching a special fundraising initiative for the Pearse Lyons ACE Foundation. Donations of all sizes are welcome. Those who donate $100 or more to the foundation will receive one of the pins that I am carrying in my backpack throughout the journey, along with a note. https://bit.ly/3WqzQKL
Stay tuned for progress updates from the Camino and our fundraiser, which has raised $6,500 so far! Thank you to so many who have already supported us. Buen Camino!
