At Advocate Sherman Hospital, translating research evidence into clinical practice is essential to maintaining our expertise and outstanding reputation for top-notch care. Our structured Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Fellowship program plays a crucial role in enhancing care delivery, health outcomes, and our overall work environment. Recently, five nurses at Advocate Sherman successfully completed their Fellowship, showcasing exceptional results. Their projects this year focused on reducing Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) readmissions, promoting equity in breastfeeding education, boosting preceptor confidence, incivility and violence screening measures. The dedication and achievements of our nurses through the Fellowship program highlight our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in healthcare delivery.

When someone receives truly excellent healthcare, one happy consequence is that it can inspire them to "pay it forward" and positively impact others. This ripple effect is embodied by Michelle Litchman, PhD, FNP an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah College of Nursing. Litchman was motivated to become a nurse after witnessing firsthand the powerful difference that skilled, compassionate nursing care can make. Now her research focuses on developing and evaluating interventions to empower those with chronic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and chronic pain to better self-manage their conditions. A key area of interest for Litchman is leveraging technology such as mobile apps and online programs to deliver these self-management interventions in accessible, convenient ways that facilitate lasting behavior change. Her overarching goal is to improve quality of life and health outcomes for the millions living with chronic conditions.By equipping patients with the tools and support they need to take charge of their health, Litchman aims to spark a positive cascade effect. Those who experience the benefits of effective self-management may feel inspired to share what they've learned and uplift others on similar journeys.
