The quote mentioned in The Business & Leadership Coaching Company's post below is both profound and has been a guiding light in my journey towards personal and professional growth and happiness.
It often occurs to me that if we took the time to choose our responses to the happenings of our lives, experienced multiple times in a day, and filtered them through the outcomes we desire and the personal or professional brands we want to build, would they be the same as our instinctive reactions in the past? ?Invariably not. ?With the benefit of hindsight, we see where, and sometime wish, we could have thought and acted differently to achieve a better outcome – one that aligns with the quality of relationships we seek to develop and brings us closer to the person we aspire to be. ?This has certainly been the case for me.
Armed with the certainty that I knew what was right and what was needed for me, and everyone around me, to succeed, I often acted impulsively, with a clear notion of what I wanted to achieve practically, but not giving too much thought to the people involved, the ones I needed or “was doing it for”. ?Boy, was I wrong. ?How many opportunities and relationships did I ruin along the way?
It took the guidance of well-meaning mentors and many a frustrated, sometimes painful, introspection for me to learn that every interaction is an opportunity. ?An opportunity to be the person you want to be. ?An opportunity to live your authentic truth. ?An opportunity to give as well as to receive, and sometimes giving more. The trick is to know what you want and then to think, act, and react in a way that you can look back on and be proud of yourself for how you approached the interaction. ?To be comfortable with, even happy, that the outcome, is what it was supposed to be.
Since then, I have kept this quote close to my heart and have let it guide me in every interaction and relationship I have had. ?Sometimes getting it right, sometimes not so much, but always with the understanding and confidence that being true to your authentic self is the only way to be truly happy and foster and maintain effective relationships, no matter the purpose they serve in your life.
Thank you to the mentors and coaches I was blessed with knowing, for helping me see how I was derailing my own ability to achieve the things I felt most passionate about. ?I am living a more authentic and happy life now, and your impact on me will never be forgotten or taken for granted.
