NOTA:BENE Today’s Story When a young family loses a mum, dad, child or sibling the impact is devastating. As someone who works with grief charities shared, one of the lasting effects can be a relentless drive to prepare for every possible future emergency. For many, this becomes a way of coping – writing down plans and trying to anticipate every eventuality in an effort to protect those they love.?? But this constant preparation can take over, adding another layer of stress to lives already shaped by grief. That’s where something like the NOTA:BENE System can make all the difference. By helping families get everything organised and in place, it offers peace of mind – so they can take a step back, knowing it’s all done, and focus on living life again.?? NOTA:BENE System - know WHAT exists, WHERE to find it and HOW to access it.?

On the first day of Baby Loss Awareness Week, I find myself reflecting on the significance of this time. It’s a week dedicated to honoring and remembering the precious lives lost and to supporting the families and individuals who have experienced such profound loss. Having personally walked this painful path, I know how crucial it is to break the silence and offer unwavering support. This is why I’m immensely grateful for charities like Tommy's. In 2019, with the help of my amazing colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group, we were able to raise over £10,000 to advance their vital work. Supporting a colleague through the loss of a baby is of utmost importance. Here are some tips on how to be there for them: Listen actively: Sometimes, simply offering a listening ear can make a world of difference. Be patient: Grief has no timeline, so give them the space and time they need. Acknowledge their loss: Let them know their loss matters and that you care. Offer practical support: Whether it’s taking on some of their tasks or just being there to help out, small gestures go a long way. Let's shine a light on this critical issue and extend our hands and hearts to those who need it. ??? #BabyLossAwarenessWeek #TommysCharity #SupportAndStrength #Remembrance #BreakingTheSilence #Thankful

Here goes - I'm actually kicking off my challenge a day early thanks to an exciting work event all day tomorrow. Baby loss and miscarriage is such a strange topic - the people who have lost children no matter when, why or how, feel like we're tied to this social pressure not to discuss it and "bounce back". The trouble with that is leaving an entire community isolated, alone and trying to navigate their grief and confusion by themselves. Aching Arms and other baby loss charities epitomise bravery, courage and utter resilience to take the worst thing (I personally believe) that can happen to a person and a family and turn that into something immensely positive by helping other people and that is why I will continue to raise money and awareness for Aching Arms. They are a charity and community that have been a lifeline when I've needed it, created team mates, allowed us all to discuss our children where we know we won't feel judged or uncomfortable. October is baby loss awareness month, with a week specifically focused for our little ones. Check in on your colleagues, friends, family or even a stranger. This month is not for us, we know our babies are never coming home but it's a chance for us to be brave enough to educate, to help someone else and so our little ones live on somehow. If you can spare anything towards the challenge, it would be greatly appreciated. https://lnkd.in/eGVKzB5g

It's Children's Grief Awareness Month, so we're bringing you weekly tips and tools to help guide your young one through their grief journey. This Children’s Grief Awareness Month let’s "Flip the Script" by valuing presence over words. Remember that sometimes, the best support we can offer a young person who is grieving doesn't come from the words we say but from simply being there. Consider these: - Sit quietly with them, letting the young person lead the way in silence or sharing. - Engage in activities they enjoy, showing you're there for support. Your presence can be the comforting gesture that words sometimes cannot match. Let's show up with our undivided attention and care. To donate, volunteer or refer a child, head to bridgessc.org. #ChildrensGriefAwareness #FlipTheScript #CGAM2024 #childrengrieve #bridgesofhope #charlestongrief #charlestongriefsupport

Would you know what to say if, at your Thanksgiving gathering this year, a loved one opened up about their grief? Grief touches us all, and holidays can often magnify that pain. It’s essential to know how to support those who are grieving, so they don’t feel isolated or pressured to keep their emotions hidden. Compassionate Ottawa offers free, community-based workshops on grief, where people can explore loss and gain the tools to support others through life’s most difficult transitions—whether it’s the death of a loved one, the loss of health, or other significant changes. But we need your help to keep these vital conversations going. Your donation can make a real difference: ??$200 fully funds one workshop. ?? $100 helps with space and materials. ?? $50 provides materials. Together, we can promote compassion and learn how to be there for others during difficult times. https://lnkd.in/eeZ7HuPc #GriefWorkshops #SupportThroughLoss #ThanksgivingGiving

Can you spare an hour tomorrow? https://lnkd.in/eKFcVxTD We would love you to join us in welcoming one of our favourite people back to our free fundraising support sessions. Louise Dillon from Armadillo Life and Fred Bennett's Don't Look Down Fund will be joining us to discuss something that many people express to us that they find challenging; Navigating conversations around loss - and this often creates barriers to meaningful engagement with bereaved donors. In the session, Louise will: 1. Share specific language tips and phrases to use (and avoid) when speaking with bereaved donors, ensuring your communication is both respectful and supportive. 2. Demonstrate how to open up conversations around grief and loss 3. Guide you through creating a more empathetic and supportive fundraising communication 4. Offer insights on transforming personal loss into a powerful force for support and change, sharing her own experience in establishing the "Don't Look Down" Fund. If your organisation works with bereaved donors or would like to engage more in this special form of fundraising but are not sure how to go about it sensitively, Louise brings not only practical tips and advice, but also an openness to ask questions and talk around this sensitive topic. Please join us - we hope to see you there. Whilst the specialised support we offer is person centred and there for as long as family needs, we will always recognise when we need to signpost families to other charities, whether that be to find support for siblings or a family whose bereavement isn’t able to be supported by us. We never wish to see anyone have to go it alone. We want to make sure bereaved families are getting the right support they need from the right people, and we recognise when other third sector organisations already offer something which may be beneficial to one of our families. For example, we will often refer families so they can have a quiet getaway at Poppy’s Place through Anam Cara Fasgadh or for sibling support we might suggest Child Bereavement UK or Crocus Highland. We welcome the chance to work collaboratively with other bereavement charities and third sector organisations as we believe there is no benefit in duplicating a service for the sake of it if one is already in place and working well elsewhere. We like to dovetail services wherever possible and welcome the chance to offer bereaved families well rounded and joined up support. Together we can make a difference to families who have experienced the death of their baby or young child - together, we care. #BLAW24 #BLAW #togetherwecare #babylossawarenessweek #pregnancyloss

My previous post references this.
Childhood. It’s what makes us. We’re all about protecting childhoods from the impact of serious illness, which is why we’re showing up a little differently. We've made some changes to how we look and sound but we’re still the same charity that will stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible. Until no childhood is lost to serious illness.
Childhood. It's What Makes Us.
