Have you signed your GP practice up to become Veteran Friendly Accredited? Our recently commissioned study of nearly 5,000 veterans found that 55% of them have experienced a mental or physical health issue potentially related to their service since leaving the armed forces. Despite this, one in seven veterans (14%) who have experienced service-related issues have not sought help from a healthcare professional, meaning thousands may be silently struggling. Our findings show that almost two-thirds (63%) of veterans would be more likely to seek help for any issues they might experience if they knew their GP practice was Veteran Friendly Accredited. The Veteran Friendly Accreditation scheme is a quick-to-implement, free support programme that sends a strong signal to veteran patients. Getting accredited only takes 20 minutes and will enable you and your practice team to easily identify, understand and support veterans. Where appropriate, signing up can also help you refer them to specialist healthcare services designed especially for veterans - improving health and wellbeing outcomes and saving you time by reducing repeat appointments and shortening waiting times for diagnosis and treatments. Veteran Friendly practices could encourage thousands of military veterans who may be silently struggling with their health to seek help. Join the 3,000+ practices who are already Veteran Friendly. I do agree on the problem. The issue is not directly the VA… it’s the optical illusion that they have control. You have to break this problem down into resource management. From that end, we need to question who is signing the checks, because money buys more doctors, nurses, health professionals and facilities. So I would argue beating on the door of the va is the incorrect move. The correct play from the veteran community comes from veterans and trained warriors coming together and demanding more from the political elite and corporate entities that have experienced amazing and successful growth at the hand of the veterans and there service. The VA is not the problem, it’s the lack of funding and support by the political parties that’s causing the problems the VA itself is plagued with currently. The resolution is voting for political candidates that can have assorted power to change the laws and funding system to ensure the VA is being audited and then also ensuring they are with correct resources and capability to make decisions and efforts that most effectively benefit the veteran community. Your vote and voice matter, but online social warrior mode doesn’t do good unless it’s constructive and effective towards the solution of the problem. So let’s focus on empowering the VA and using the system in place built by veterans for veterans. Rather than attacking the thing that was built to protect and support our community.
?? Why so many Veterans meet their end in VA parking lots ?? Today, the VA canceled my appointment with 28 hours' notice, an appointment that took me months to work up the courage to make. This launched me into a bureaucratic nightmare. What followed was a maddening loop of transfers—from a nurse advice line (who couldn't make me an appointment anywhere else because of policy) to eligibility offices(who couldn't make the doctor change because of policy), and finally bounced between clinics without any resolution. This chaos is why we hear heartbreaking stories of veterans committing suicide in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs parking lots. It's unacceptable. Our veterans deserve dignity and respect, not endless red tape and incompetence. We need a complete overhaul of the VA system—now. Our heroes can't wait. Tanya Bradsher, Shereef Elnahal, Kimberly J., Steven Lieberman, Michael Missal is this the legacy you all want to leave behind when you stop SERVING the Veterans who utilize the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs? #VeteransAffairs #VAHealthcare #SystemFail #DemandChange

White Paper — Costs and Consequences: Obesity’s Compounding Impact on the Military Health System Even under the best circumstances, military fitness programs reduce body weight by less than 1% in active-duty military populations, and none have been proven to maintain weight loss over time. Implementing evidence-based obesity treatment programs would significantly improve military readiness, save the Military Health System at least one billion dollars annually, significantly decrease veteran disability ratings, and facilitate the continuing recruitment of capable personnel. https://lnkd.in/eybqigwk ?
