Finally, 'unsexy tech' gets its air time! I firmly believe that the most essential ed tech tools won’t solely rely on the flashiest new technology. Instead, they’ll focus on capturing specific audiences within the K-12 sector and flawlessly integrating back-end services—most likely leveraging technology that’s been around for decades. I’m so grateful to Greg Toppo and The 74 Media for this article, as it perfectly captures what I've been trying to articulate all year—a balance between optimism and critique, being both a harsh critic of ed tech and one of its biggest cheerleaders. And the fact that my mom loved it only adds to the high praise—trust me, that's saying something! And why do any of this work if I'm not making mom proud? https://lnkd.in/eDtCK2jr
Great article!! The one thing I would state is that it's not about the technology. It's about the learning. The best technology enables students to achieve the highest level learning. If technology can't do this, it's pointless in the learning process.
Bravo - so glad to see you and Seigel Family Endowment spotlighting Ed Tech and will flag some of our recent work on the deeply unsexy work of K-12 specific cybersecurity: https://www.politico.com/newsletters/weekly-cybersecurity/2024/10/15/cyber-is-getting-schooled-00183598

2 周congrats Katy!! I'm really intrigued by the work you're doing so keep sharing please!! my two fave quotes (outside of the 90s kid tribute to tamagochi) is "there’s a mismatch between how the tech startup venture world works and how education products need to work." and the final line about not having enough agency in tech. this could be more true with AI being tacked on to every product and service in every app we use these days.
