“I didn’t ever have anybody to explain to me what sex really was.” – Jewel Mandeville In Episode 3 of Stand Up, Speak Out: Reproductive Rights, Jewel shares her experience of growing up without access to sex education in 20th-century Chicago—a reality that shaped generations of women. Without formal education about reproductive health, countless people like Jewel had to navigate the complexities of sex, relationships, and family planning through whispers and incomplete information. This lack of access wasn’t just an oversight—it was a systemic failure to empower women with the knowledge they needed to make informed choices. In a time when access to accurate information about reproductive rights is more critical than ever, this project amplifies the voices of those impacted and empowers individuals to take action. The fight for reproductive rights and comprehensive sex education is a fight for dignity, autonomy, and equality. ?? Watch Jewel’s story in Episode 3 of Stand Up, Speak Out: Reproductive Rights and learn more about the history of this ongoing struggle. Understanding the past is key to building a better future. Question: What is my gender? Answer: Male. Question: How do you know? Answer: Because you have a Penis! ????????. You see, speaking to girls is interesting ! Just be prepared for anything! To make impact, there has to be a strategic shift in mental and self awareness. Indeed we all run the world in our various capacities! Our visit to one of the secondary school in a quest to gather data by sharing questionnaires on menstrual hygiene and sex education we had this amazing conversation! In the survey, it was striking that 60% of girls in the room had neither had an idea on menstrual hygiene and a talk on sex education. This data has given us feedback on areas we should tailor our facilitation approach to achieve our goal: To Empower the Girl ?? We intend to intervene in this gap by providing Menstrual Pads and sensitization programs on sex education across five schools in Ogun state. To make this a reality, we need 3000 pads! And any donations will go a long way to help these girls in low income communities learn more about themselves, how to navigate these waters when the time comes, successfully complete their studies with a positive and self aware mindset. Put your money where your values are - in health and safety to be human.
15 years ago I was the first person to identify that when we don't talk openly and honestly about sex, p*rn becomes de facto sex education, in this TED Conferences talk with which I launched MakeLoveNotPorn: https://lnkd.in/e3e7gG6Z Today, we're finally raising funding to launch MakeLoveNotPorn Academy: https://lnkd.in/e3jbrak6 with the mission of organizing the world's sex education information, for children, young people, parents, teachers, adults, everybody, to provide education that, importantly, drives personal agency, and changes lives. This from Natalie Lampert for LitHub is why: https://lnkd.in/eaMert-y

Our #awarenesssessions include a segment where our digital resource person talks about CSAM. Amongst participants, there tends to be unanimous consent on the necessity to cultivate an environment where students feel comfortable and encouraged to engage in open discussions, particularly regarding sex education, which is deemed increasingly crucial in today's context. Global figures illustrated the alarming rise of CSAM, with 450,000 files reported in 2004 compared to over 87 million by 2022. This stark increase underscores the urgent need for comprehensive education on responsible online behaviour for students, parents, and society at large. #csam #childsexualabuse #childsexualabusematerials #stopchildabuse #onlineafety #digitalsafety #medialiteracy #digitalliteracy #awareness #advocacy #peace #ecpat #ecpatinternatioonal #protectchildreneverywhere KIOSfoundation UNICEF ECPAT International Fundación Vicente Ferrer Visit us at www.ecpat.lk Images courtesy of - Image by master1305 on Freepik Image by freepik

Today the Sex Education Forum launches our annual Young People’s RSE Poll. This is a critical day in our calendar, as it gives us the opportunity to amplify young people’s opinions about their relationships and sex education provision, highlighting what they need more of alongside what’s going right. This year, we were heartened to see that statutory provision seems to be embedding after Covid-19 delays, with 50% of young people reporting their RSE provision was good or very good - the highest number since our polling began. However, young people also told us that they don’t all feel personally included in RSE lessons and key topics like pornography, seeking the sexual health services, and LGBT+ issues are being neglected. They also told us that to fill these gaps, they’re turning to online sources including social media, which potentially opens them up to harmful misinformation. We stand behind young people when they call on Government for more flexible provision, better teacher training, and expanded lessons across age ranges and beyond Year 11. #RSEPoll2024 #ConsultMeOnRSE You can read more in the report: https://lnkd.in/gxTngRHp

Advocates for third-party presenters of sexual education to kids under 16 in schools are making a strong case for their services in collaboration with various activist groups. Conservative provincial governments are actively opposing anti-family and anti-motherhood organizations, safeguarding the honor and vital role of mothers and families in our societies — essential aspects of our civilizations. #Education #Advocacy #FamilyValues

Paraguay introduced its first national sex education curriculum, sparking controversy over its conservative approach, which promotes abstinence and overlooks LGBTQ issues. Backed by the Ministry of Education, it frames sex as "God's invention for married people." Critics argue it lacks scientific rigor and reinforces harmful stereotypes, while supporters claim it aligns with traditional values. This comes as Paraguay faces the highest teenage pregnancy rate in South America. Should sex education prioritize cultural values or scientific facts? Read ??GlobalPost and find out. *** #WorldNews #GlobalPost #Paraguay #SexEducation #TeenPregnancy

Inclusive sex education IS a human right ?? and folks, of all genders, sexualities, race & faith deserve access to RSHE that reflects & represents them. As a sex educator I can see why these individuals fall for scams like this - because they aren’t provided with the knowledge needed to challenge these scams, and if professionals are telling you something a you’re more likely going to believe them & trust them. And you should be able to trust your doctor - but it’s vital to have your own information & so your own resource. But how can you when these resources aren’t made available, or you don’t have internet access, or you don’t even know how to begin the conversation. These poor individuals who are being scammed by these pregnancy scams would be better protected if they have access to inclusive RSHE. Of course, inclusive RSHE isn’t the only answer - we need to fight for reproductive rights alongside providing young people with sex education that will give them the tools to protect themselves from scams like this. RSHE saves lives. This is proof.
