?? CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS: Chapter authors wanted for a new edited volume on "Diaspora in Peace and Conflict in the Indo-Pacific". This proposed volume focuses on #diaspora communities facing challenges in the pursuit of social justice, reconciliation, security, and human rights. Where repression is now transnational in nature, the study of diasporas both in conflict and #peace becomes much more compelling and worthy of additional academic attention as it highlights an alarming, if not urgent international concern. Of recent note, transnational repression of diaspora, from Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, #Thailand, and #Cambodia, is becoming more commonplace in South, Southeast, and East Asia, with #China being the largest perpetrator. ???? In June 2008, the #Ainu were officially recognized as an Indigenous people of #Japan. However, the Japanese government still doesn′t recognize the #Ryūkyūans (or Okinawans) as Indigenous Peoples. ?? Despite Japan having adopted the UN Declaration on the Rights of #IndigenousPeoples, Japanese Indigenous Peoples′ right to full self-determination, which includes leadership over their resources and land ownership, is not yet acknowledged. ?? In 2023, Ainu are still denied their collective rights to lands, territories and resources. The current legislation, the Ainu Policy Promotion Act, allows for limited harvesting rights, provided that harvested resources are used for “cultural transmission purposes” only. ?? In the Ryūkyū Archipelago, Ryūkyūans′s land rights are increasingly threatened by the military expansion led by rising tensions between the US and its allies in East Asia, on the one hand, and China and North Korea, on the other. Here is what he had to say: "Our effort is to resolve the issues between #Afghanistan and #Pakistan amicably, and we will play our role in addressing these issues. Indonesia Condemns Military Attack in West Bank's Jenin, Reveals Israel's Hidden Intentions The Indonesian government has condemned Israel's military operation in Jenin, West Bank, labeling it a significant escalation that jeopardizes peace prospects following a recent Gaza ceasefire. Indonesia views this violence as a reflection of Israel's intent to maintain its occupation and undermine Palestinian rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Israel's actions represent a clear violation of international law and reinforce its illegal occupation. Indonesia highlights that the conflict's root cause lies in Israel's refusal to recognize the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. In response, Indonesia is calling on the international community to take strong action against injustices faced by Palestinians and to support the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on the two-state solution principle. The military operation in Jenin began on January 21, 2025, shortly after the Gaza ceasefire was initiated on January 19. Over the four-day assault, surrounding villages were also affected, leading to significant destruction of infrastructure and civilian property. Palestinian authorities reported at least 12 deaths, over 40 injuries, and about 3,000 families displaced in the Jenin refugee camp.
