I cannot even express in words how much I love this post. Brands fail to realize that people become UGC creators because they love social media and they saw social media as a creative outlet for them. UGC creators understand the nuances of social media, they understand what makes a video connect with the target audience, but when you put them in a rigid box of rules and guidelines, the magic of individual creativity fades.
Brands are always asking me, “What’s your best strategy when briefing creators? How do you handle creative strategy with them?” And honestly, I just tell them straight up. Let creators do their thing. Let them be creative. Let them come up with their own ideas. I mean, yeah, you can give them a script or some guidelines, but for real, the best content? It's the stuff that feels real. Let them try the product and just roll with it. The real creativity happens when the video is as genuine as possible. The overly scripted, too-perfect stuff? People see right through it. Look, some formats do win consistently, and sure, you can keep repeating them with different creators, different ideas... but for me? I always lean toward that lo-fi, natural vibe. That’s the stuff that hits home because people can actually relate to it. So, I always tell brands… be cool with testing new things. It doesn’t have to be perfectly polished all the time. Let the creators experiment, run different campaigns, try out multiple formats. Test, test, and then test some more. That’s how you find out what clicks with your audience. Let your creators loose, be open-minded, and watch the magic unfold. ??

?? Introducing Deviation Studio ?? When we said the only way to make meaningful change is to deviate from the path… we meant everywhere. Strategy, Briefing and Execution are equally valuable when it comes to executing your holistic search everywhere approach. From today, we are beyond excited that Deviation can further develop the existing proposition of strategy and briefing we have in place to include an exciting execution proposition too. The development of our studio will see Chino Rocha, respected content creator, videographer and editor, join the Deviation team, leading the development of the studio with co-founder Ashley Liddell. For Deviation, having the ability to be that all-encompassing partner for brands in the social-search space was always the case, ensuring that we guide our partners through the various stages from strategy, right through to measurement. Deviation Studio enables us to begin operating in this way for brands. Take ‘Proactive Reactivity’ for example. This is one of the big themes of Deviation, and to this point our ability to create reactive content to capture trends has been a hindrance to our own ambitions around this key theme.
