Guiding trail projects from vision to reality | Principal at Penn Trails

Before we can design a trail, we need to know what kind of experience we are trying to create. Activities like walking and bird watching are uses, not experiences. I came across this graphic recently for the "Recreation Opportunity Spectrum" in the USFS Continental Divide Trailhead Guidelines that is really useful for illustrating what I mean when I talk about experience. Getting to the core of that question goes a long way toward defining how a trail will look and feel. What kind of experience are you looking for when you head out on the trail? #trails #trail #traildesign #landscapearchitecture #nature #recreation #parksandrecreation #conservation #landtrust

Love this. We even talk about this in other ways like an experience at a park or reservoir or facility. Even starting from how the enter the parking lot, street, interact online for planning and more. Very important. Good stuff.
